‼️Colchester’s high street matters - and I’m working to strengthen it.‼️

Yesterday in Parliament, I brought together experts from the London School of Economics and MPs from across the country, co-chairing the discussion with Fleur Anderson MP.

That included Nicki Treffers from Beresfords, a commercial property expert working with us locally, on bringing empty spaces back into use in Colchester.

This work will help shape the Government’s national high street strategy, making sure Colchester is at the heart of it.

I was delighted to join Essex County Cricket Club to celebrate their 150 year anniversary. I am passionate about creating more opportunities for people to play sports including cricket, especially for young people. I’m looking forward to working with Active Essex to do more of this.

It was great to meet many supporters of Essex Cricket and some of the players. The Essex Women’s Team will be playing at Castle Park in Colchester next on 21 June.

🏥Great to see progress on Colchester’s new Mental Health Urgent Care Unit last week!

This dedicated facility will give people in acute crisis a much calmer and more appropriate place to get help, rather than going through A&E.

Opening later this year, it’s going to make a real difference to local patients and ease pressure on our hospital services.

Proud to see this investment delivering for Colchester.

Today I joined our PCSOs and neighbourhood wardens on one of their regular city centre patrols. My thanks to them for doing a tough job on our behalf and to members of our Business Improvement District (BID) In Colchester for arranging the walk. I’ll be following up with Essex Police and Colchester City Council.

Our aim is simple: to make our city centre and high street thrive. Together with brilliant co-chair, Nicki Treffers, I’m talking to commercial property managers, asset owners, retailers, tenants, chains and indies to find common ground and cause. These conversations take time but I’m certain they will help unlock value and investment in Colchester. With huge thanks to Hugo Fenwick and others for supporting this work.
