New pilot scheme offers chance to test products at Bromley Charter Market

Budding entrepreneurs and local businesses have the opportunity to test products at Bromley Charter Market as part of a newly launched pilot scheme, which is now taking applications.

The new initiative aims to support the borough’s businesses with an affordable, low-risk opportunity to trial their products and services in a real market environment. Participants will get a two-week trail as part of the historic Bromley Charter Market, which was established in 1205 by Charter of King John.

The project is being delivered for Bromley residents or those in existing Bromley business support networks by Opportunity Bromley in partnership with Bromley Council, Start Up Bromley and Your Bromley BID. This forms part of ongoing collaborative efforts to support Bromley High Street.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Bromley Council’s Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for new and aspiring entrepreneurs to gain valuable insight into their products and help their businesses to flourish. It is also an example of how we are continuing to innovate alongside our partners to support our vibrant high streets and the local economy, while helping ensure shoppers have a wide range of interesting options available.”

Successful applicants will split a stall with other participants during the trial at Bromley Charter Market, which runs with high footfall on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Start-up and scale-up businesses, makers and online retailers, or those with new or unique product ideas are encouraged to apply ahead of the deadline on Friday 19 June.

Congratulations to Bromley Scouts who recruited an impressive 277 volunteers in their recruitment drive for Bromley's 60th anniversary that the council supported - far above their target of 60!

There are many great volunteering opportunities across the borough, including in aid of Bromley’s armed forces community such as through the scouts or cadet units.

Residents are encouraged to find out more and help make a difference locally, with thanks to the many volunteers already active across Bromley.

Objections needed please do respond - there was a thought they had withdrawn from this site - but it is understood that Berkeley Homes are not looking for any new areas and will pursue some current locations - unfortunately Bromley is one - we must keep up the pressure to object.

A planning application has been formally submitted by Berkeley Homes for a major residential-led development on land off Hayes Lane and the A21…
