On National Fish and Chip Day, it was great to sit down with Yoddi, the owner of La Fish, Chichester, to discuss the family-run business that’s been supplying fish and chips to Chichester for nearly 45 years.

I hope you get to support your favourite fish and chip shop this evening to mark the occasion!

During the Urgent Question yesterday regarding the rapidly rising number of young people aged 16-24 not in employment, education or training (NEETs), I asked the government what support it can provide hospitality businesses that would be employing young people if they weren’t being squeezed from all sides.

I’m harking back to the weekend, when the sun was shining and I had the pleasure of opening the new Chichester Men’s Shed at The Fishbourne Centre!
This project was the brainchild of Brian Bird back in 2020, and over the last 6 years, a large number of Chichester residents have turned the vision into a reality!
A big thank you to all that have worked so hard to create a welcoming and supportive space for people to come together to create, make and socialise.
If you’re interested in becoming a ‘shedder’, they have a website you can visit, at chichestermensshed.org

Here's a look at what I got up to last week during a short recess from Parliament as your MP for the Chichester constituency:
Hosted a Charity Fundraising Roundtable, bringing together local organisations to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the sector and how we can support their vital work.
Took part in Q&A session at Pagham Village Hall, answering questions from local residents and discussing the issues affecting our community.
Attended the grand opening of Chichester Men's Shed, celebrating a fantastic new community space that will help tackle loneliness and support men’s wellbeing.
Held a constituency surgery at Chichester Baptist Church, speaking directly with residents about the issues that matter most to them and how I can help.
Visited the pond at Lake View in Pagham (home to a family of swans and 5 cygnets) that has suffered with a lack of management by a private company, to discuss next steps to get some accountability for residents.
Visited Transition Chichester's Earth Café, learning more about their work to promote sustainability, strengthen community ties and encourage positive local action.

Earlier this week I joined Transition Chichester for their weekly Earth Cafe; I was greeted with tea, treats and nature-themed poetry in the tranquility of the garden at Chichester’s Quaker House.
Tomorrow, there is an open invitation to join them
for a free screening of Chris Packham’s new Film ‘The People’s Emergency Briefing’, bringing to life the climate and nature emergency we face in the UK.

Thank you to all the representatives of local charities that joined me this week at my annual charity fundraising roundtable.
I’m very grateful to our three guest speakers for the evening, Ben from Children on the Edge, Jackie from Voluntary Action Arun & Chichester and Liz from Chichester Community Development Trust
If you represent a charity in the Chichester constituency and you’d like to join us next year, please pop me an email to be added to the mailing list!

As part of the ‘what makes Britain Great’ series by the Liberal Democrats, I was invited to contribute and it will come as no surprise that I chose the theatre, as a key British export, an identified area of potential economic growth and a key tool to help us understand each other as a society.
Every week, the Liberal Democrats will share a video on their platform from different MPs, highlighting the things they believe make Britain great 🇬🇧

I’m in Pagham this evening for a Q&A session with Pagham Parish Council! I look forward to seeing lots of Pagham residents there.
If you’re a Pagham resident but you are unable to join us this evening, you can always email and request a surgery appointment; these are available on a weekly basis.

If you’re thinking of an activity sheltering from the sunshine this weekend, many talented artists and creatives have opened their homes and studios to share their work as part of the Chichester Open Studios Art Trail!

You can find them all across the Chichester area, they are well signposted.
I popped in to visit a few last weekend!
