Important roadworks information
A12 Baddow Park Estate – overbridge resurfacing

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing of the overbridge on the A12 Baddow Park Estate. Once complete, the overbridge will remain in a safe and serviceable condition.

We plan to complete this work overnight on Friday 19 June 2026. We will work between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A12 Baddow Park Estate overbridge, and divert traffic as detailed below:

Traffic will be diverted via West Hanningfield Road, turn left onto Brook Lane continue until the left turn for The Chase.

Emergency vehicles will not have access through the works.

Love Your Chelmsford is delighted to announce the launch of a new competition aimed at younger residents of the Chelmsford district.

We’re inviting Chelmsford’s young people to design our next official bookmark as part of our 2026 Bookmark Design Competition.

The competition is in celebration of the recent Community Book Boxes, which will continue to grow across Chelmsford’s Parks, and in the lead up to this year’s Essex Book Festival.

There are currently book boxes at Central Park and John Shennan Field LNR, with more coming to Oaklands Park, Saltcoats Park and Tower Gardens later this year and more planned for next year.

The competition has three age categories:
• Under 7 years
• 7–11 years
• 12 years and over

Prizes include book tokens and sketch pads, and the overall winner will have design printed and shared across our community book box network.

A huge thank you to all the residents who joined us last Thursday evening for such a positive and well attended community event.

It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to discuss the issues that matter most to our community, including safety and security, speeding concerns, fraud prevention, and neighbourhood policing.

Thank you also to our informative speakers, local police officers, community representatives, and councillors for sharing valuable updates, advice, and answering residents’ questions throughout the evening.

A very special thank you goes to the children from St Michael’s Junior School, who spoke so confidently and thoughtfully about their role in the community and their future plans. They were a real credit to the school and inspired everyone in the room with their enthusiasm and ideas.

These conversations are so important in helping us work together, share concerns, and strengthen our community. We really appreciate everyone who took the time to attend, contribute, and be part of the discussion.

🚧 Important update from National Highways: Fryerning Lane bridge 🚧

Thank you for your patience while essential repairs to Fryerning Lane bridge were completed.

The bridge was damaged in a road traffic incident in 2018. Repairs to the damaged beams above the A12 southbound carriageway have now been completed and the structure is safe to use.

As part of the repair work, detailed assessments showed that the bridge edge beams were not designed for today’s traffic levels. To keep road users safe, temporary protective barriers have been installed which reduce the available road width.

Because the carriageway is now narrower, the bridge cannot safely support two-way traffic at the same time. Temporary traffic lights are therefore needed to manage vehicles crossing the bridge safely.

We understand these restrictions are causing delays and frustration, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.

The priority was to complete the urgent repair works first to prevent further deterioration. National Highways is now working closely with the local authority to develop a long-term solution that will remove the current restrictions and improve journeys for everyone using this route.

Further updates will be shared as soon as the next steps are confirmed.
