Our final Discover Detecting day of the year couldn’t have been better. Glorious weather and a host of lovely finds for our rookie detectorists, who had never handled a detector before. Three silver hammered coins were found, including this corking Edward I Longcross penny.

Fabulous penultimate Discover Detecting day of the year. Our rookie detectorists all found something - and one found an Edward I silver hammered penny in the second hole she had ever dug! Another saved a Mary silver groat. And a Victorian intaglio brooch and a possible Bronze Age spiral ring were also found.

Our DD guests on Saturday and Sunday had to cope with some of the most challenging conditions we have ever had to deal with. But did they moan? Absolutely not! Smiles and finds throughout all the rain. We salute you all!

A shout out to all our guests today who had to contend with very trying conditions, especially in the afternoon. No bucolic, sun-drenched, butterflies and bee-buzzing detecting today. My God, were we impressed with you. But one of you went away with a Charles II Hibernian penny, probably dating circa 1680. And from turning up as newbies, you all went away detectorists!
