Our next led volunteer session will be Wednesday 5th November.
Hannah’s been off for a couple of weeks but will be returning next week with a long list of jobs to do!
In the meantime, big thanks to her 84 year old old step father for stepping up to help litter pick around the garden and to her mum for helping distribute pumpkins to some of our groups 🎃💚

The Gateway Garden has so many positive stories to tell, of people in our community coming together to grow food, supporting biodiversity, meeting new people and learning new skills. Everyone is welcome and all we ask is that people are respectful of the space and each other.
So it is with great reluctance that we have to share that a very small minority, and sadly we do know it is only a handful of young people, within our community, are damaging the garden and its ethos. With vandalism and verbal abuse to its users, this should not be tolerated.
Please, if you have young people in your family, talk to them about the impact this has on those who are working to make a space we can all enjoy. About the impact damaging something that young and old have sown and nurtured. About valuing the diversity of the wee toon.
Last Tuesday when we arrived at the garden we discovered the Campbeltown Nursery Centre children’s pumpkins had been picked and smashed up around the garden and seating area. The plants ripped up and destroyed.
We have young people in our community who help in the garden, the Campbeltown Grammar School has a bed in the garden. Thank you to them for the valuable contribution they have made. They are a credit to their families and the town. We welcome any young person who would like to learn a new skill or become involved. This is your space too.
Let’s not allow the few to ruin it for all.

We won’t be having a led volunteer session this afternoon. We were hoping to participate in an online workshop from the tea hut but after a trial this morning the internet wasn’t playing ball. Back to the office.
We’ll be at the garden next week, with lots of fresh plans from today’s exchange of ideas from community gardens across the uk.
In the meantime go and search for this beauty of a plant at the gateway garden. I remember seeing it in a catalogue and buying the seeds…. pretty sure it’s Pink Wild Carrot?! Bees love it 🐝

Couple of garden updates for this week -

Weathers not looking so good tomorrow so if you’d prefer to come along this afternoon for a catch up or to lend a hand then we’ll be at the garden from 12 today (Tuesday)

Tomorrow (Wednesday) I’m participating in a Grow Wild Community Program Session, a national wide project from Kew Gardens, to share our experiences from the Gateway Garden and the fantastic community we live in and the support we’ve had from volunteers, local groups and businesses. If tech allows I’ll be doing this from the tea hut so volunteers still welcome to come along to the garden 🪏 😊

They get our vote ✅
Fantastic selection of films about people and our planet, from
Knepp Wilding to It'll Never Work.
Such a diverse range of films- Love it! Only takes seconds to vote!

There is nothing quite like the communal experience of watching a film on the big screen and we want to celebrate the special cinemas around the country that are at the heart of their communities, bringing audiences together and championing independent film.
