Cambridge University's 'People, Place, Partnership' plan to bridge the 'town and gown' divide is widely viewed in a positive light. Particularly if it improves physical and intellectual access.
It is important to acknowledge some reservations. Many key individuals—including the Leader, several councillors, and members of staff—already have direct links with Cambridge University. This gives rise to a pertinent concern: will building stronger connections also serve to increase the university's influence over civic life and local outcomes?
Despite these concerns, the university's programme should be welcomed. It represents a step forward in fostering collaboration and mutual benefit between Cambridge University and the wider community.
