Bug houses are a great way to encourage a wide range of beneficial insects to inhabit your green space. Invertebrates need safe places to shelter, hide from predators and breed, and by giving them a cosy shelter (or luxury bug hotel if you fancy), you can help them thrive.

South Devon National Landscape's Life on the Edge team, in partnership with the National Trust, are hosting a free workshop where you can learn how to make a bug box to take home. All tools and materials are provided, and this session is for anyone age 12 or older.

📆 Monday 22 June, 10.30am - 1pm
📍 Coleton Fishacre
🪲 Booking essential

June marks 100 years of 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd,' one of Agatha Christie's novels that defined her career.

We've browsed the shelves to discover what editions we could find here at Greenway. Starting off with the UK first edition by Collins in a purple and red hardback, followed by the US edition published by Dodd & Mead with the iconic spine detail. Thirdly is the Greenway edition and lastly, published after her death, a special print for the Agatha Christie Mystery Collection.

But that's not all. Thanks to the team at Agatha Christie, we have a limited number of free magazines to help you enjoy the best-selling novel in its anniversary year. Pick one up from the shop at Greenway or visit the Agatha Christie website to download the PDF.

On Monday we headed out to South Milton Sands with our fantastic Shoresearch Survey volunteers to identify and record the marine life revealed by the low tide. We manage to dodge the rain and we discovered some exciting species along the shore. A huge thank you to our growing team of volunteers who help us collect valuable citizen science data for Shoresearch.

But what is Shoresearch? Shoresearch is a thriving network of trained volunteers led by The Wildlife Trusts. It's a great way to explore your local coast, learn more about the wildlife found there and add to our understanding of this important habitat.

If you’d like to get involved in a future survey, we’d love to have you join us. Find out more and sign up here > https://bit.ly/SouthMilton-Shoresearch

D-Day, known as the Normandy Landings, occurred on 6 June 1944, and was a historic moment in the Second World War.

We're commemorating the role Greenway played in the D-Day landings this weekend, on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June. Discover Greenway's story and the service personnel based here, the marks left that can still be seen at Greenway today and what life might have looked like.

On Saturday, see a display of a D Day U S Navy 2nd beach battalion, with tented command post and communications equipment, outside of Greenway House.

On Sunday, we will play host to a 1939 Buick super straight eight limousine, requisitioned by the war office and used extensively in preparations for the D Day offensive. It was used to chauffer many dignitaries during this period, Sir Winston Churchill and Ike Eisenhower being two very prominent passengers.

Planning a visit? You can travel in the footsteps of Agatha and Christie, and the US Coast Guard by coming up river with Greenway Ferry. Ferry tickets are available to book on their website, with services from Dartmouth and Dittisham.

Alternatively, if visiting by car, you'll need to book your parking space in advance through the Greenway website > https://bit.ly/Agathas-Greenway. Normal admissions to Greenway apply.

Celebrated each year on 5 June, World Environment Day raises awareness, inspires change, and drives action for a healthier, more sustainable planet.

We're part of the global fight against climate change. It's the single biggest threat to the precious landscapes and historic houses we care for, but we can't do it alone. Small actions we take as individuals contribute hugely, so here's a few ideas to get you started:

🍃 Reduce your carbon footprint by walking more
🍃 Save water by collecting rainfall in your garden
🍃 Support a local beach clean
🍃 Enjoy your hot drinks and water in reusable cups and bottles when out and about

As seen on the television show, Hidden Treasures of the National Trust, we're excited to share that the silk jacket worn by Agatha Christie's mother is now on display at Greenway for the first time.

Pictured in a photograph of Agatha's mother that hangs in the Winter Dining Room, it's a rare chance to get up close and see the jacket following it's specialist conservation, and discover the meanings behind the motifs of a very special item in the collection at Greenway.

The silk jacket will be on display upstairs in the Dressing Room of Agatha's bedroom, until 1 November 2026.

If visiting Greenway by car, you will need to book a parking space in advance through the website. Normal admissions apply.

We couldn’t look after the special places in South Devon without the support of our incredible volunteers. Whether it's helping to restore nature in the countryside and gardens, support the care and conservation of the collections, create memorable moments and experiences for everyone, all of them make a difference.

This we want to take a moment to say thank you.

It may be the last day of National Walking Month, but could it be the start for you?

Thanks to our partnership with Cotswold Outdoor, we're looking for volunteers to join the Walking team in South Devon, helping to lead, support and manage walks that cater to a range of ages, abilities and interests.

Exploring walks across Dartmouth and Kingswear countryside, we'll be venturing out in the future around Salcombe countryside too, soaking up the fresh air and inspiring others to join in.

If you love walking, have a few hours to spare and are interested in learning new skills, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch by emailing [email protected]

We're delighted to be supporting the launch of the Big Blue Bag Project at Wembury, with founder Monty Halls on Saturday 6 June 2026.

What is the Big Blue Bag? Well, exactly what it says on the tin. The Big Blue Bag is a conservation kit bag, with easy to follow protocols allowing everyone to help support gather key data relating to ocean health.

If you're passionate about marine conservation, why not come and join Monty at Wembury Marine Centre for an introductory talk, before trying out the bag on the beach. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential via the link below.
