We were delighted to receive a lovely handwritten card of thanks from Mr and Mrs Hawes, who recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary and received a commemorative bouquet from the Town Council.

It was wonderful to hear how much the gesture was appreciated, and we are very grateful that they took the time to write to us. We would once again like to extend our warmest congratulations to them on reaching such a special milestone.

A wonderful moment in Briton Ferry today as I had the pleasure, in my role as 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆, of presenting a bouquet on behalf of Briton Ferry Town Council to celebrate a 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆.

𝟱𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲 is an incredible milestone and a true testament to love, commitment and partnership.

Congratulations to our new Mayor for 2026/27, Bethany Morgan Labour Town Councillor for Brynhyfryd Ward 👏

⭐️Wednesday 20th May 2026⭐️

I am incredibly honoured and proud to become the new Mayor of Briton Ferry Town Council for the coming year 2026 - 2027.

To be given the opportunity to represent the town I’ve called home for 23 years is an absolute privilege. To be given this opportunity to represent my town is something I will never take for granted.

Briton Ferry has a proud history, strong community spirit and amazing people and I’m committed to serving our town with energy and dedication and respect throughout my term as Mayor

I would also like to thank Councillor Gareth Rice for his hard work, dedication and service this year during his year as Mayor. Your commitment to the community has been outstanding and greatly appreciated and I now have very big shoes to fill for this coming year , thank you for all that you have done and I’m sure your going to continue to do for Briton Ferry.

Thank you to everyone who have supported me on this journey and I’m excited for what is to come

𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 Briton Ferry Town Council — 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my year and the chance to meet so many members of our community. From school visits (where the children always bring the biggest smiles), to community events, parades, presentations, fundraisers, concerts and remembrance services — it has been a privilege to represent Briton Ferry.

We marked 𝟴𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗩𝗘 𝗗𝗮𝘆, 𝗩𝗝 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝗿 𝗜𝗜, celebrated 𝟵𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, the 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, and applauded the Friends of Jersey Park for receiving The King’s Award.

I’ve also had the pleasure of celebrating 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 (𝟱𝟬), 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗱 (𝟲𝟬) and 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗺 (𝟳𝟬) wedding anniversaries — with a Platinum celebration only yesterday as my final engagement.

𝗧𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽, 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 — 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿.

A special thank you to 𝗦𝘆𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗮, whose support throughout the year has meant a great deal.

Although my time as Mayor has now come to an end, 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁, and I remain fully committed to working hard for our community.

⚠️ Community Notice – Cats Falling Ill in Briton Ferry

Several residents, particularly around the Shelone Road / Shelone Woods area, have reported their cats becoming unwell over the past week, including vomiting and other worrying symptoms. The cause isn’t yet known, but there is concern that accidental exposure to rat poison, slug pellets, or other garden chemicals may be involved.

Please help by:
- Avoiding the use of poisons in gardens wherever possible
- Ensuring any pest‑control products are used safely and securely
- Not feeding cats that don’t belong to you
- Keeping a close eye on your pets and seeking veterinary advice if they become unwell

If others have noticed similar issues, please share so we can build a clearer picture and help protect our animals.
