Our Bridlington South Ward Councillor Cllr Andy Walker on Look North. Celebrating the fact that concerns of the people of Bridlington regarding the closure of the community care unit have been acknowledged.

He highlights that the notice period for the closure was extremely short and the concerning lack of public consultation relating to the decision.

'It's all about pausing to take stock of where we are and keeping the safety and wellbeing of our residents our residents right at the top of the list'

Fantastic news for a Friday!

A massive well done to Cllr Andy Walker for doing such a fantastic job of chairing the scrutiny meeting earlier in the month and showing York Hospital Trust that it's not acceptable to just simply close hospital services without proper public consultation.

Thank you to old town Councillor Chantelle Elliott for organising a presence outside and inside the meeting. Thank you to anyone who spoke out, circulated the petition, signed it and to MP Charlie Dewhurst for taking the petition to Westminster.

This is such a good example of how while, the decision has not been completely over turned, that when we work together as a community we can make a difference. 🌈

In the words of one of our Green Party heros Baroness Natalie Bennett 'Politics is something we should all do, not just have done to us' 💚

Yorkshire Water have set up a water monitoring station in the Gypsey Race, around Springfield avenue (near Tesco).

💧The station aims to collect water quality information over a two year period to train AI for a bathing water quality app. We welcome more easily accessible water quality information to inform the public's choice and help keep them safe.

🏊‍♂️But no one bathes along this stretch of the Gypsey Race? will they use this information to infer the safety of water at Bridlington South Beach? we know that there is a separate Sewage outflow there.

🦆We are very interested in how much the Gypsey Race does contribute to water quality at Bridlington South Beach and more generally the current ecological/pollution status of the Gypsey Race.

📊We hope to make contact with Yorkshire Water for more clarity on the situation and we'd love to be able to see some of the data being collected as currently we have very little up to date information on the health of the GR.

The firm describes it as "the holy grail that people have waited years for".

Today in Parliament, the Conservatives are pushing to approve the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil fields.

Approving new oil and gas licences is a climate crime and won't take a penny off our bills.

Say it with us: No new oil & gas. Just transition now.

A billionaire Trump mega-donor is set to make millions from Thames Water’s takeover bid.

Overseas hedge fund lenders are demanding more power to pollute our waters, dodge fines and hike bills to service debt.

Privatised water is a scam. Bring it back into public hands.

We think Bridlington's bathing water should be more than 'Sufficient'.

Bridlington South Beach gets a Seaside Award

This is good news for Bridlington, sort of. At least it has this award.

But to say that you are "Proud" to have this award and that the "Water Quality progress is being made" is rather scary when the actual situation is that the Bathing Beach classification is "Sufficient" (which really isn't) and there have been over 50 recorded sewage spills into South Beach this calendar year already.

Yorkshire Water are investing in Bridlington to the tune of around £100m. We are still to learn what their plans are but the investment will start in 2027 and will take years to come to fruition.

So, enjoy the beach, heed the signage and always respect the water!

The climate crisis is now a public health emergency, according to WHO-backed experts.

The science is clear.
The consequences are impossible to ignore.
Action cannot wait any longer.
