Hertsmere First’s Councillor Marc Amron enjoyed a really good catch up with Rabbi Charley Baginsky on Life,Religion and Antisemitism. We look forward to working together raising awareness on Antisemitism. Rabbi Baginsky’s faith literacy projects have focussed on dialogue between teachers, pupils, and communities as a foundation for social cohesion. She is a powerful advocate for women in faith leadership and under her leadership, Liberal Judaism and then Progressive Judaism has partnered with synagogues offering housing, legal aid, and education for refugees, projects she believes are at the heart of religious values and teaching. Faith leaders such as Rabbi Baginsky are a beacon of light to humanity in these dark times.

Yesterday was Borehamwood Youth FC’s presentation ceremony and I was delighted to help hand out the awards to their amazing U11 Lionesses side. They had a fantastic season and even got to the Cup Final!

Congratulations to all the players, to their supportive families and in particular to their coaches Lee, Sean Gorman and Ian Fryer.

A special mention should also go to Pixie Barron and Hatch for sponsoring the team this season 🦁⚽🏆

Over the past few days many of you have been asking me more about Hertsmere First. We are the refreshing, new political voice for local people.

A group of Independent councillors who reject divisive, tribal politics and instead focus on listening to local voices - including through residents' forums - to find solutions that work best for local people, not party politics or national agendas.

We are not whipped or told how to vote. We each use our judgement and experience to do what is right whilst being transparent, open and respectful.

You can read our Residents Charter, Civility Pledge, Our Shared Values and Priorities here: https://hertsmerefirst.co.uk/

We are bringing genuine change from the tired politics of the past.

I hope you will support us.

Hertsmere First Independents - People before politics.

Yesterday morning I handed over the grand sum of £437.45 to SPACE Hertfordshire which was my Mayoral charity during my term of office as Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood.

SPACE supports families of children and young people who are autistic, have ADHD or other neurodivergent conditions and the funds will used to support projects in our town specifically.

Thanks so much to Layla (pictured) and Nicky for working with me on this over the past year and to everyone who donated!

Well done Alpha Collins - the Liberian community across Europe came together on May 9 to mark Alpha’s outstanding achievements and humanitarian contributions, including - but not limited to! - being the first Liberian elected politician in the UK. You inspire all of us - Liberians, Hertsmere residents, and people all over the globe.

Hertsmere Borough Council has marked the beginning of Pride Month by raising the Progress Pride Flag outside the Civic Offices in Borehamwood in a show of support for the borough’s LGBTQ+ communities.

The flag was raised today, Monday 1 June by the Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Parveen Rani, who was joined by council staff, fellow councillors, and representatives from Hertfordshire Constabulary, Herts Pride, Hertfordshire Based LGBTQ+ charity Impactful Lives, Communities 1st, and Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Cllr Rani said :

“As your new Mayor of Hertsmere, it is a privilege to stand with our LGBTQ+ community – a community built on courage, resilience, love and pride.

“Pride is a celebration but it is also a reminder of those who fought for the freedoms many of us enjoy today. People who challenged prejudice, who stood up when it was difficult, and who believed that everyone deserves to live openly, safely and authentically.

“We are proud that Hertsmere is a borough in which everyone is free to be themselves.”

The council is again sponsoring Herts Pride, with this year’s event taking place at Cassiobury Park in Watford on Saturday, 22 August.
