Our first hoglets of the season were admitted today. These 3 are only a few days old.
The nest was disturbed & despite our efforts to reunite them with mum, she unfortunately did not return. After a night alone we had no choice but to intervene. It is always better to try & keep the family together, as hand reared hoglets have a low survival rate compared to those raised by mum.
Thank you to the finder who did her very best to keep the babies safe & encourage mum to return.
We will do our very best, but they have a long road ahead of them πŸ₯°

We are expecting to have nice weather this weekend🌞 Please take care in the garden. Check before strimming.πŸ‘€
Careful forking the compost heap.
Old piles of garden waste can be a tempting home for a hedgehog. Please take care.πŸ¦”.
Enjoy the sunshine 🌞 remember hedgehogs don't sunbathe and if they are it's a sign they are poorly or injured and need urgent rescue.

This is Angus πŸ’š
Angus was admitted last summer as an orphaned hoglet full of flystrike. He was hand reared, did really well, spent some time in my enclosed garden gaining hoggy skills & was released in my front garden on 8th Aug, marked with yellow nail varnish.
I found some very watery diarrhoea outside one of my hog houses a couple of days ago, checked inside to find Angus, very thin but alert (yellow nail varnish still visible).
Luckily he is eating really well, gaining weight & appreciating a little cosy warmth & pampering πŸ₯°
Photo of him as a baby & today.
So lovely when they return home for help πŸ’š

A huge thank you to The Welsh Wildlife Centre for inviting us to your event last Friday.
Hamish is a hog that was rescued last summer as a tiny hoglet, he has a permanent disability that prevents him from being released into the wild, but that doesn't stop him from having a huge personality & living life to the fullest!
He will live in our secure garden as long as he remains happy & healthy.
He came along to the event to see how he coped with being the star of the show & he was fabulous!
Hopefully he will be a happy little ambassador for Hedgely & will be at more events over the summer πŸ₯°πŸ¦”πŸ’š
