A man is to appear in court next month after being charged with a racially aggravated public order offence in Darwen.

Around 1am on 21st March, our officers detained a 45-year-old man in Church Street.

He became abusive to the officers and members of the public and was arrested. Later he was released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Michael Harries, 45, of Bolton Road, Darwen, has been charged with racially/religiously aggravated harassment and using threatening/abusive words/behaviour.

He’s been bailed to appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court on 9th July.

As legal proceedings are now active, we have turned off the comments on this post so not to prejudice future court hearings.

The rider of the e-scooter, a man in his 50s, suffered a wrist injury and has been taken to hospital.

An investigation is underway, and following initial enquiries, this is being investigated as an assault.

We want to stress that this is being treated as an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the wider public.

Good Evening ,
Officers from the Blackburn with Darwen Neighbourhood Policing Team have attended a safety event at Darwen Youth Zone with colleagues from LFRS to speak to the attendees around the dangers of swimming in open water during the recent hot weather and the recent tragedies that have been in the national and regional news.

We would like to remind families about the danger of any open waters. Rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs and ponds may look safe and inviting during hot weather, but cold temperatures, hidden currents, deep water and slippery edges can quickly become dangerous.

Please speak to your children about water safety including:
Avoiding jumping and swimming in unknown waters
Staying away from the edges of rivers, canals and lakes
Calling 999 and asking for the Fire Service or Coastguard in an emergency, do not enter the water to try and save a person
Telling an adult immediately if someone is in trouble in water.

We would encourage all children to enjoy the outdoors safely and make sensible choices around water.

Morning everyone,

We are investigating a serious collision which happened in Darwen yesterday and we need your help if you saw or recorded anything.

Our officers were called to Church Bank Street at 9.05pm following reports that an Audi Q4 Etron had collided with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian – a man in his 40s – suffered a number of serious injuries and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Audi, a 28-year-old man from Old Langho was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody at this time.

This collision has left a man with a number of significant injuries and our thoughts are with him and his loved ones at this time.

Work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to the collision. We know there were a number of people in the area attending the local music festival who potentially saw what happened or captured the incident on mobile phone footage. We want to hear from them as soon as possible. We would also ask that anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage which could help us with our enquiries to contact the police as soon as possible.

Email [email protected] or call 101 and quote log 1533 of 23rd May 2026.

We’re asking everyone in our community to take a few moments to check their home security and review some simple crime prevention advice to help keep our neighbourhoods safe. 🤝

Our Team 5 Target Car officers have shared the following guidance to help residents protect their homes and support one another within the community 🏡

💭 Lock snapping is a technique used to target certain euro cylinder locks, often fitted to uPVC and composite doors. Some older-style locks can be vulnerable, but upgrading them is usually quick, affordable, and can greatly improve security.

You can check your lock by looking at the front of it and comparing it to the example shown below. Locks displaying the TS007 3-star marking are designed to provide extra protection against this method. 🔐

Here are a few simple ways we can all help strengthen community safety:

🔒 Consider upgrading to anti-snap or TS007 3-star rated locks
💡 Use sensor lighting around entrances and driveways where possible
📹 Use CCTV, video doorbells, or visible security devices if available
🚗 Always remove valuables from vehicles and ensure they are locked
🪟 Keep valuables, keys, and handbags out of sight from windows and doors
🚪 Double-check doors and windows are locked before leaving home
👀📱Keep an eye out for neighbours and report suspicious behaviour to police
🤝 Share crime prevention advice with friends, family, and local residents

Even small security improvements can make a big difference. By staying aware, supporting one another, and working together, we can help keep our neighbourhoods safe, welcoming, and secure for everyone 🚨🚔
