Ribble Valley TrailRiders and Lake District National Park Partner to Improve Green Lanes
Early this year, Ribble Valley TrailRiders (RVTR) and the Lake District National Park (LDNP) partnered to improve green lanes in the Lake District. The partnership was successful in identifying and funding repair works to Sadgill and Gatescarth lanes, which were reopened in a timely manner and prevented a longer closure.
The repairs were funded by a £6,000 donation from RVTR. The donation was specifically earmarked for repair work, and not for administrative or management activities.
RVTR Chairman Mike Tomlinson said, "We appreciate the good work that LDNP does to help maintain the Lake District National Park for everybody, and hope our contribution will assist in the ongoing maintenance that is required to keep the Byways in good condition."
LDNP Ranger Suzy Hankin said, "The donation from RVTR was a great help, and we were able to complete the repairs quickly and efficiently. We are grateful for their support."
The repairs included:
• Stone pitching to prevent further damage from water
• Drainage work to improve the overall condition of the lanes
• Measures to prevent people from cutting corners on the zig zags
The partnership between RVTR and LDNP has a number of benefits, including:
• Improved green lanes: The repairs to Sadgill and Gatescarth lanes have improved the condition of these lanes and made them safer for riders.
• Increased access: The repairs have also made it easier for people to access these lanes, which has helped to promote tourism in the area.
• Improved communication: The partnership has improved communication between RVTR and LDNP, which has helped to resolve issues and ensure that the lanes are managed effectively.
• Reduced conflict: The partnership has helped to reduce conflict between riders and other users of the lanes, such as walkers and farmers.
RVTR and LDNP are committed to working together to improve green lanes in the Lake District. They believe that by working together, they can ensure that these lanes are enjoyed by people for many years to come.
