Our Victims' Advocate Natalie Queiroz was on hand to welcome the new Victims and VAWG Minister Catherine Atkinson to Black Country Women's Aid

The Minister spent time talking through key victim-related issues with the Victim's Advocate and BCWA CEO Sara Warde, while also enjoying a tour of the services and meeting with clients to hear first hand of the support they provide.

BCWA supports male and female victims of domestic abuse, victims of serious sexual assault and r**e, stalking victims, victims of modern slavery and women in the criminal justice system to name just a few.

PCC Simon Foster and the Victims' Advocate proudly support its work in helping victims.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster PCC is urging football fans to plan ahead and never get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol as the FIFA World Cup 2026 gets underway this week (June 11).

With many matches taking place in the evening and early hours of the morning UK time, the Commissioner is reminding motorists that drink driving remains one of the biggest causes of people being killed and seriously injured on our roads and that there is no safe amount of alcohol to consume before driving 🍺 🍷 🚫

The warning comes as pubs, clubs and venues across the region prepare to welcome supporters watching matches throughout the tournament.

Simon Foster has consistently backed tougher action against drink driving and has called for an easily understood and straightforward zero-tolerance legal alcohol limit for drivers in England and Wales, alongside stronger penalties for dangerous driving offences.

The Commissioner said: “Millions of people across the country will be enjoying the World Cup with family and friends over the coming weeks. Whether you are watching a match in the evening, staying up late or heading out to a pub to support your team, my message is simple: if you drink, don’t drive. 🚘 ❌

“One poor decision can destroy lives forever. Drink driving kills and seriously injures innocent people every year and it is entirely preventable.

“There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. Plan your journey home in advance, use public transport, book a taxi, arrange a lift with a designated driver or stay where you are.

“I continue to support a zero-tolerance approach to drink driving and tougher penalties for dangerous drivers. Those who choose to break the law and put other people’s lives at risk must face serious consequences.”

Road safety is a key priority in the Police and Crime Plan 2025-2029. The Commissioner is working with West Midlands Police and partners to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the region’s roads, tackle dangerous driving and illegal street racing and improve safety for all road users.

The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster PCC, is using £5,000 worth of cash seized from criminals to support a homelessness and su***de prevention charity 💜

The PCC has awarded a £4,900 grant from the My Community Fund to the Push on Wellbeing (POW) team based at Lily's Tea Parlour and Wellbeing Retreat in the Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre.

The critical funding comes after the PCC recently visited founder Teresa Farrell and her dedicated team of volunteers to witness first-hand the life-saving support they provide to vulnerable individuals and families across the community.

Over the last year alone, POW has gifted more than 800 hot meals to people facing homelessness or fighting to live above the breadline.

Operating for 11 years, the project provides a crucial safety net. Every single week, the team welcomes several struggling young families alongside 10 to 15 homeless individuals. Working together with local Solihull Police teams, POW provides wrap-around care that includes crisis intervention and vital su***de prevention outreach.

The mission is deeply personal for Teresa, who founded the organisation after facing homelessness herself as a young mother with her nine-year-old son.

Teresa Farrell, Founder and CEO of Push on Wellbeing (POW), said: “Lily’s Tea Parlour is named after my late mother, and right now, this safe space is needed more than ever before.

“My absolute passion is to help people who feel completely down and out, to offer them a light in the dark, and to remind them that life is good. Today is a gift and yesterday is in the past.”

She added: “Without this vital support from PCC Simon Foster, we simply wouldn’t have been able to expand our reach to help and support more people – including those who are in their darkest hours and contemplating su***de. This funding is quite literally a lifeline.”

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, commented: “Teresa and her incredible team of volunteers represent the very best of our community. The dedication they show at Lily’s Tea Parlour every day provides an invaluable lifeline to struggling families, rough sleepers, and people in severe mental distress.

“By tackling homelessness and offering critical su***de prevention, POW directly supports our local policing efforts and prevents vulnerable people from slipping through the cracks. I am pleased to back them through the My Community Fund.”

Handsworth community champion Nina Hayr is set to receive a special honour from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster PCC during national Volunteers' Week (June 1-7) 👏 👏

The 71-year-old grandmother, social worker of 26 years, and leader of the Friends of Friary StreetWatch group will be celebrated alongside fellow volunteers at a dedicated awards ceremony hosted at West Midlands Police's Tally Ho! Tactical Training Centre on June 2.

Nina founded the Friends of Friary StreetWatch group back in 2018 following an infuriating encounter with a stranger who illegally dumped his van on the pavement near her home, blocking her from walking past with her two young grandchildren 😤

Refusing to let lawlessness dictate the state of her neighbourhood, Nina took action. “I am passionate about keeping my area clean and tidy,” Nina explained. “I don’t like it when people don’t follow the law.”

Today, Nina leads a dedicated team of seven local residents who conduct hour-long patrols twice every month.

While the group routinely intercepts issues like fly-tipping, illegal parking, drug dealing and criminal damage, Nina’s team recently faced an ultimate test: saving a local resident’s life 💜

“We were on our usual patrol and doing a spot of litter picking when a woman approached us asking us to call her an ambulance,” Nina recalled. “She said, ‘I want to kill myself. Call me an ambulance. Please’. We did and she got the help she needed. I will never forget that. Whatever comes our way, we have to deal with it.”

The StreetWatch project is a massive community-led success across the region. In 2025, 838 dedicated volunteers participated in 131 active StreetWatch groups across the West Midlands, collectively contributing a staggering 7,140 hours of high-visibility patrols 🚶‍♀️ 🚶

Local residents over the age of 18 who are interested in improving their local area, deterring anti-social behaviour and working closely with local police can learn more and register to volunteer by visiting the OPCC StreetWatch Volunteer page: https://www.westmidlands-pcc.gov.uk/careers/volunteer/streetwatch/

Every day, ordinary people across the do extraordinary things to protect, support and uplift their communities - and we want to make sure their selflessness doesn't go unnoticed 👏

Just take a look at last year’s incredible Outstanding Young Citizen joint-winners, pictured below with Simon Foster PCC and Deputy PCC Wasim Ali.

👉 Layla Warren – A truly courageous young woman who has dedicated herself to anti-knife crime advocacy through 'Birmingham Says No' and quite literally saved a passenger's life by calmly stepping in to perform CPR when they stopped breathing on a city bus.

👉 Bobby-Ray Fitzpatrick – A relentless young fundraiser who, after seeing the devastating impact of knife violence, set up a community flower stall outside his mum’s café - drawing in supporters from over 40 miles away to fund and distribute lifesaving bleed control kits. (Pictured is Bobby's proud mum, Jodie, accepting the award on his behalf!)

Age, background, or scale doesn't matter - if someone is making a profound difference in your local area, they deserve to be celebrated 🤩
