Delighted to see Cllr Liz McInness be elected as Mayor of Rossendale for the Municipal Year 26/27 - we hope she has a fantastic year

At the Annual council meeting in Rossendale across the chamber all attending council members were good humoured, respectful and unanimous in the appointment of Mayor Cllr Liz McInness , Deputy Mayor Cllr Samara Barnes and Honorary Alderman Mr Granville Morris.

Congratulations to our new Mayor, Councillor Liz McInnes, who was elected last night to serve for the municipal year 2026/27.

Liz's consort is her partner Steve Duxbury and the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Samara Barnes

Congratulations to them all and many thanks to the outgoing Mayor & Mayoress, Michelle Smith and Jackie Oakes, who have served the Borough with diligence. 🌹🌹🌹

Good news for Bacup!πŸ₯³ Plans to improve Bacup Market were approved by the Development Control Committee on 14th April 2026.βœ…

This is part of the wider Valley Plan for Rossendale, which is about strengthening our town centres and making them better places for everyday life, local businesses, and visitors.

For Bacup Market, the aim is to support local traders, improve how the market works day to day and create a more flexible space that can be used for shopping, events, and community activity.

We know how important the market is to Bacup, and we really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to share their views so far. The project will now move into detailed design and planning for delivery, and we’ll keep sharing updates as it progresses.

A great result for the first week, thank you to those residents who are embracing this positively, quietly getting on with it and recognising the environmental benefit, you are many !

The collection vehicles run on HVO ( Hydrotreated vegetable oil ) that’s basically synthetic diesel derived from waste fats and oils.

Well, that's the end of our first week of food waste recycling, and we're in awe!πŸ—

If you want to see the face of a champion, then please just take a look into the nearest mirror!😍

Compiled below are this week's winners.....and in no particular order (in an Ant & Dec voiceover).🎀😁

1st place, Tuesday's collection, 7200kg.

1st place, Wednesday's collection, 6900kg.

1st place, Thursday's collection, 9200kg.

1st place, Friday's collection, 7200kg.

Everyone's a winner!πŸŽ‰

This is the first small step into helping make a big difference to the world we love and live in. Keeping 30,500kg away from landfill this week has gone someway in reducing harmful greenhouse gasses and is a 100% improvement over this time last week. 😁

As and added bonus, enriched fertilizer will go on and help grow the food that feeds us tomorrow!πŸ₯•πŸŒ

Food waste lost to landfill can take years to decompose with no positives.

Food waste recycling can take just hours to deliver such valuable benefits through anaerobic digestion!πŸŒβ™»οΈπŸ’š
