A lovely season for visitors with the weather being the best we have had since being at Docton, 15 years in total. Next year, 2015, we wont be opening till March 15th and closing October 5th. By the time we open we hope to have some more seating areas in place around the herbaceous borders, giving people more time to sit and soak up the atmosphere of the garden. Next September we will be starting on a total revamp of the greenhouse area, to be completed by March 2016, which has come to the end of its useful life. This will include a new greenhouse by Alitex, a new plant sales area with increased variety of plants available for purchase to mirror those plants in the garden, we will also be introducing a small vegetable garden which will give this area a new dimension.

This Sunday the 15th June the gardens are open for the National Garden Scheme, the vast portion of the money raised going to Macmillan Nurses. The star feature of the garden at the moment is the herbaceous borders and the roses which are looking fabulous. Poplar in the tearoom

The gardens at Docton Mill have entered another phase with everything looking fresh and vibrant, the bluebells, always late due to the north facing slopes are always stunning especially the walk to the weir where they are mixed with the white of the wild garlic. Azaleas, rhododendrons magnolias are all on show with the start of the herbaceous border starting to fill and expand, the garden is full of new things to come. Popular in the tea-room at the moment are the salmon and cream cheese baguettes, smoked mackerel salads with the homemade chocolate torte with clotted cream to follow.

Lovely start to the season due to mild weather, the garden looking stunning. The newly planted tulips are at their best in the herbaceous border. The whole of the garden is well advanced. Local crab rolls seem to be very popular at the moment, presumably due to the mild weather, and of course the cream teas.
