Battle PT | Relentless by Design

Friday morning’s Battle PT session delivered a progressive test of speed, strength and teamwork — replicating the physical stressors of sustained operations.

Phase 1: A 2.4km Speed March carrying 21kg, demanding pace, load carriage discipline and mental robustness from the outset.

Phase 2: Team games designed to sharpen agility, communication and cohesion under fatigue — reinforcing that combat effectiveness is built on collective effort.

Phase 3: A 4km stretcher and burden carry, testing grit, shared load management and the determination to keep moving when physically drained.

Battle PT conditions soldiers to operate under weight, under pressure and alongside their teammates — strengthening the foundations of warfighting readiness.

The CO and SSI also extended their thanks to Sgt Jimmy Phillips (74 Sqn Comms Trp), whose PTI qualification concludes this month after 10 years of loyal service in support of physical development. Across a decade he has coached, mentored and set the standard — serving as an exemplary role model for junior PTIs across the Regiment.

Train hard. Carry the weight. Fight and win. 💪🏽⚔️

Inter-Corps Cross Country Championships | Competing at Corps Level

On Wednesday, three personnel from 1 Regiment represented the RLC at the Inter-Corps Cross Country Championships, taking on a demanding course of relentless, undulating terrain. The race tested endurance, pacing, mental resilience and the ability to perform under sustained physical pressure — attributes central to warfighting effectiveness.

Maj Ede competed as part of the RLC Men’s Masters Team, driving them to a strong 2nd place finish. Lt Nicholson represented on the RLC Women’s Team, who also secured 2nd place against tough Corps-level competition.

Corporals’ Club Development Day | Studying War to Win Wars

Last Wednesday, junior leaders from 1 Regiment stepped beyond routine duties to sharpen their warfighting mindset during a Corporals’ Club cohesion and development visit to the The Tank Museum in Bovington.

Immersed in the history and evolution of armoured warfare, the Cpls examined the lessons of past conflicts, deepening their understanding of battlefield adaptation, doctrine and the realities of high-intensity warfighting. Studying how armoured forces have evolved reinforced the importance of leadership, initiative and tactical agility in modern operations.

Beyond the exhibits, the day strengthened cohesion within the junior leadership cohort. Open discussion, shared insight and professional reflection built trust and unity — critical components of combat effectiveness.

Investing in our junior NCOs ensures 1 Regt continues to develop confident, informed and resilient leaders ready to prepare soldiers for the demands of future battlefields. 💪🏽⚔️

Southern League XC Championships | Relentless in Any Conditions

Today, the 1 Regiment RLC Cross Country Team deployed to compete in Race 6 of the Southern League Championships — facing wind, driving rain, thick mud and unexpectedly deep water crossings.

In conditions that mirrored the demands of operating in austere environments, every runner demonstrated resilience, determination and the will to push forward when the ground gave way beneath them. Tough terrain builds tougher soldiers — and the team delivered.

The next race takes place on 18 Feb. Personnel ready to test their physical robustness and competitive edge should contact LCpl Rai (2 Sqn) to get involved.

Train hard. Compete hard. Fight harder. 💪🏽⚔️

CO’s Shield | Squadron Competition in Action

Last week, squadrons from 1 Regiment RLC went head-to-head in a fast-paced, high-intensity basketball tournament, competing for the CO’s Shield. Hosted by 2 Squadron’s Cpl Stevens, the event demanded teamwork, aggression, decision-making and resilience under pressure — all key warfighting attributes.

After a series of hard-fought contests, the final standings were:

• 1st Place – 74 Squadron
• 2nd Place – LAD
• 3rd Place – 12 CS Squadron
• 4th Place – 23 Squadron
• 5th Place – 2 CS Squadron

With one event complete, focus now shifts to the next phase of the CO’s Shield competition — the Doko Race, hosted by 23 Squadron — where physical endurance and mental grit will once again be tested. 💪🏽⚔️
