Credit where credit is due….
Having read and seen some of the negative posts from the normal naysayers with their own political agenda I though I would make a post to recognise what I feel is a positive move by Bexhill-on-Sea Town Council Climate, Nature and Environment Committee (CNE).
This committee is the one that has been created to invest, protect and enhance our town in a variety of ways, from looking after our allotments, increasing and protecting our green and open spaces, consulting with the public on the creation of a neighbourhood plan, improving and promoting the health and well-being of residents and amongst many other benefits find and support ways of helping the town transition and increase the towns resilience against the challenges the town faces with climate and biodiversity change.
It is a forward thinking committee that brings people together to find practical solutions to the problems and challenges we face.
I have today read the minutes of the last meeting, in this meeting we have seen some positive decisions made for the town.
1) They are exploring ways to reduce graffiti in our town, by working with local community groups.
2)They are continuing to be a voice of residents against sewage discharges, and will arrange a public meeting in 2024 with Southern water.
3)They plan to provide more Grit bins, hopefully reducing some of the chaos we saw last winter with roads and pavements becoming unsafe.
4)They are looking to support community groups such as Bexhill in Bloom in increasing and providing some of the beautiful flower beds we in Bexhill love to see
5)They are looking to create an emergency resilience plan, so the Town Council can help respond to town emergency’s (such as the issue last year when many parts of Bexhill were unable to access fresh water)
6) They are continue to invest in ways of increasing biodiversity and increasing the towns climate resilience by choosing to invest in the Bexhill Doomsday Project
7)They are looking to invest and fix the years of neglect in our allotments, also increasing community usage in a variety of ways.
These all have the potential to be incredible positive for the town, some of the funding for all this will need to be authorised by Full Council, but I was impressed that the committee have also agreed to seek external funding for some of these initiatives and recommended use of some of the money developers pay our local councils to increase and improve local infrastructure. This exploration of alternate funding will help keep costs to tax payers as low as possible while maintaining essential investment in our town.
Well Done and thank you to The Bexhill on Sea town Council CNE committee.
I urge all town councillors to support their positive initiatives and help Bexhill get the investment it really needs.
