The outside of our handsome end terrace Edwardian property was used as Honolulu Heights- the B&B that BBC3's Being Human characters fled to in Barry, South Wales. (Just outside Cardiff). Casualty has also been filmed here.
Gavin and Stacey, Dr Who, Torchwood and the film Submarine have all been filmed in the vicinity.
Our handsome red brick house is freehold. It's huge- 3 storey, and newly decorated, with 6 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a downstairs cloakroom (pipework in place for further en-suites if desired).
As you walk up the flag stoned path, past the honeysuckle hedge and Calla Lilly patch, through the pretty front garden, you can stop and enjoy the wide reaching views across the waterfront and docks in one direction, and over Barry Island and out to sea in the other.
Enter through the stained glass front door, and you are immediately struck by the beautifully tiled hallway, and dramatic Edwardian staircase.
There's two original doors into the immense lounge. Originally two big rooms, it's been knocked through into one big room. The floor-boards are stripped and stained, and the deep original skirting boards add to the dramatic impact, along with the original cornicing. There two huge bay windows, one looking out at the side garden, and the over looking over the Island, and out to sea. They both have sliding sash double glazed windows. There's a wonderful working open fire place, for cozy Christmas mornings around the crackling blaze.
We have replaced the electrics throughout the house, as well as the heating system.
We bought original cast iron school radiators, and had them restored. Now they blast out the heat and look beautiful in every room.
Back out of the lounge and past the spacious under-stairs niche where we keep the family's shoes coats, you push open the stunning stained glass door, we reclaimed from a church, with it's original brass handles and swing hinge.
The kitchen is handmade solid oak, with planked oak worktops and integrated appliances.
In the dining end of the massive room there is a bay window, along with two other large windows spilling light in. The windows are doubled glazed sliding sash.
Out of the back of the kitchen, past the broom cupboard, which is plumbed for a washing machine if you wanted to keep it there, and the downstairs cloackroom / w.c which has a skylight, and a marble hand basin, is the stable door out to the garden.
Upstairs to the first floor there's a double bedroom with a double glazed sliding sash window with a view over the back garden. There is a digital aerial point in this room.
The smaller bathroom is next to this room, and can be used as an en-suite to this room.
Next to that is the larger family bathroom. Both bathrooms have recently been restored in a lovely Victorian style.
The next room is a handsome double room with a bay window, again double glazed, with a view over the side garden. Original skirtings and cornicing. Digital aerial point.
Finally then we reach the master bedroom, which will take your breath away. It is almost 30sqm! There's a double glazed sliding sashed bay and a second big window, with views out to sea again. Like in the lounge there are the deep skirting boards, stained floorboards, and original cornicing. This is a truly stunning room. We have had the pipework laid outside, so it will be easy to create an en-suite in this room, and there's plenty of space for one. You could even create one for the next door bedroom too.
Upstairs again, under the massive skylight that allows light to flood into the whole upstairs, and onto the large landing, with space for a desk.
There's another double bedroom, with a sky light and double glazed sliding sashed window. Digital aerial point.
Next door is another double room, with a double glazed sliding sash window that offer views over the Island to the sea. These rooms could have en-suites fitted, they could easily be connected to the pipework that's at the side of the side of the house ready. Digital aerial point.
There's a sixth bedroom at the front of the house. We have this room set up as a generous single, but it could take a double bed if desired. There's a big sky light.
Back downstairs, and out into the garden you are in for a pleasant suprise.
The private walled wrap around garden is by far the biggest in the area, and it is stunning. It is slabbed in natural limestone with fossils, and there's beautiful reconstituted limestone balustrades between levels.
There is a double brick and marble BBQ.
Next to that is the veg patch and fruit trees- apple pear plum & cherry and rhubarb and strawberries, and raspberries, blueberries and Logan berries!.
The slabbed patio is surrounded by flower beds, and a herb garden, and grape vines tumble down the back fence, which give abundant sweet green fruit. The side garden is hedged with aromatic jasmine hedge, which along with the honeysuckle perfumes the entire street on summers evenings.
From the garden you enter the detached two storey coach house which has electric & water, and fitted kitchen units. Upstairs there is access from road for use as garage if required. We keep our washing machine & chest freezer there. Other people higher up the street use their units as little shops.
Although the house is an end terrace, due to the hill location, next door is so much lower down it is as good as being detached. There is no noise at all.
The house is in a perfect location- the train station 2 mins away. There are trains every 15 mins for 20min journey to Cardiff Centre.
There are 4 lovely beaches in easy walking distance.
There are schools for all ages, dentist, doctors and opticians and a college all in walking distance.
The quaint High Street, with it's unique and individual shops and boutique coffee shops and restaurants, and bars and pubs is just around the corner, is just five minutes stroll away. Yet house is in very quiet and peaceful residential area.
Perfect property to be B&B- was in past & still has permission in place-has unique selling point- we'd be happy to leave a range of pictures from filming to decorate guest rooms.
And since we are moving abroad we are happy to sell any or all of the furniture separately, so you could buy a fully furnished home & business all ready to go.
