Ever seen a Spitfire up close? Here’s your chance.

Barnsley’s Armed Forces Celebration Day is bringing a free programme full of entertainment, including the opportunity to see a Spitfire alongside a range of activities for all ages. There’ll be military-themed fun, a climbing wall, face painting, a military parade and plenty more happening throughout the day.

Yesterday, I was approached by a lot of people regarding Barnsley Live.

So my question is: would people like to see a return of the one-day festival?

Maybe you could tag some of the organisers and, if there’s demand, let’s get them around a table and see if we can make it happen for 2027?

I’m aware of the issues of previous years with council involvement, and my stance is that, as a council, we should be trying to help make it as good as we can, not hinder it in any way.

So, what are your thoughts?

Today is the 82nd anniversary of D Day

The Croix de Guerre and bronze star medals were awarded to Lance Bombardier Eric Taylor from Goldthorpe for his bravery during the D-Day Invasion of Normandy in 1944

BIADS is having a stall at the classic car rally on June 14th at Locke Park. As well as giving out information we are holding a bottle tombola stall to raise much needed funds – this can be anything in a bottle from wine to shampoo to pop to ketchup! Please can you help by donating some bottles? If you can help please drop them off at our centre on Dodworth Road by 11th June. Here’s hoping for great weather!
