Elsecar Heritage Centre is one of the jewels of our local area, and it's always a pleasure to see so many people giving up their own time to help keep it looking its best.

A huge thank you to every volunteer who has been out weeding, restoring benches, litter picking and helping maintain this historic site. Your dedication and community spirit do not go unnoticed, and the difference you make is clear for everyone to see.

Volunteers are at the heart of so many successful community projects, and Elsecar Heritage Centre is a great example of what can be achieved when people work together.

If you've ever considered volunteering, we'd encourage you to give it a go. Not only will you be helping preserve a much-loved local landmark, but you'll also have the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people and make a real difference.

🌿 Ward Update - Snicket rear of George Street/Walderslade – Resident Request Actioned 🌿

Following a request from a local resident regarding an area that needed some attention, the Hoyland Milton Ward Councillors visited the site to assess the concerns.

After our visit, we passed the details on to the South Area Caretaker Team, who have since attended and carried out work including strimming, mulching, cutting back vegetation and clearing the area.

A big thank you to the South Area Caretaker Team for responding so quickly and for the work they continue to do across our communities.

The team also spent time at Owd Martha's Yard, helping prepare the site for the Barnsley in Bloom judging. We wish everyone involved the very best of luck.

As always, if you spot an area in Hoyland Milton that would benefit from attention, please let us know. We'll continue to work with residents and council teams to help keep our ward looking its best. 🌿

🚧 Temporary Car Park Changes at Elsecar Heritage Centre 🚧

If you're planning a visit to Elsecar Heritage Centre over the coming days, please be aware of some temporary changes to the overflow car park while essential drainage works are carried out.

The usual overflow car park entrance on Wath Road is temporarily closed.

If you need to use the overflow car park, please continue a little further along Wath Road where a temporary access gate has been opened. This will operate as both the entrance and exit until the works have been completed.

The main car park on Wentworth Road remains open as normal and is unaffected.

These drainage improvements are important to help maintain and improve the site, and I'd like to thank everyone for their patience while the work is completed. If you're visiting the Heritage Centre, please take a little extra care around the temporary traffic arrangements and allow a few extra minutes for your journey.

🚧 Elsecar Park/Reservoir Footbridge Update 🚧

Following enquiries made on behalf of residents, we've received an update regarding the closure of the footbridge at Elsecar Park/Reservoir.

Unfortunately, this isn't a simple repair. The existing bridge has reached the end of its serviceable life and will need to be completely replaced.

Here's the latest information we've been given:

🔹 The project is currently with the Council's Framework (FW) and Engineering teams.
🔹 Parks Service has no control over the replacement timescale.
🔹 A recent request for an update confirmed there is no further information available at this stage.
🔹 The dam path will remain closed on health and safety grounds until the new bridge has been installed.

We know this will be disappointing news, particularly for those who regularly use this route for walking and enjoying the park. We share your frustration and understand the inconvenience this ongoing closure is causing.

Please be assured that we will continue to seek updates from the relevant departments and will keep residents informed as soon as any further information becomes available.

☕ Cllr Michael Davies recently attended the coffee morning at Hoyland Hall Care Home, where residents, families and staff came together to raise money for the residents’ entertainment fund.

It was a pleasure to meet resident Barry, who spoke proudly about his fundraising, hobbies and how much he enjoys life at Hoyland Hall.

🇬🇧 Our older generation built the communities we enjoy today. They deserve respect, dignity and the very best care in later life. Events like these are a reminder of the importance of supporting our care homes, valuing dedicated staff and ensuring that older people remain at the heart of our communities.

A big thank you to everyone at Hoyland Hall for the warm welcome and for all that you do. 🩵
