Maybe you've never heard of Gwlad before - here's our leader Coun Gwyn Wigley Evans to explain in a nutshell
Face it, there's no other party like us in Wales
"Gwlad is a new Welsh independence party. We believe in light-touch government, and a low-tax, entrepreneurial, independent Wales
* We offer a credible alternative to the socialist administrations which have dragged Wales down in the past
* In everything we advocate, be it business, culture, society, language ... it's Wales first, the people of Wales first
* We're a different kind of nationalist party, entirely focused on reclaiming our freedom in the shortest practical timescale; ensuring Wales becomes stable and prosperous.
* This means overturning old assumptions and prioritising the economy above all
* We don’t believe that Welsh people are better than anyone else. They’re simply the best people to run Wales.
* Wales should be distinctive but not isolated; open to the world but not a blank slate. Our language and culture are assets, not liabilities
* Wales is poor and our economy needs to grow. There’s a proven way to achieve that, which has lifted billions out of poverty during our lifetimes – free trade and free markets.
* We are the only party that recognises what needs to be done
* We’re not obsessed by resources. Some say that a country’s wealth depends on its natural resources: water, oil, coal, etc. Yet some of the world’s most successful countries – Finland, Israel, and others – are as small as Wales and have fewer resources
* Our trust is in people, not in government. Welsh people are smart and capable: throughout history they’ve often been at the forefront of progress in industry, science & technology, education & healthcare. The government needs to get out of their way
* We want to create the conditions for Welsh people to succeed. An education system worthy of the first country in the world to achieve mass literacy - 250 years ago! With a tax system that doesn’t penalise success but rewards long-term investment and growth
* We’re committed to universal health care, free at the point of use. But we can't just pour ever more money into the NHS, as if the only alternative were the US system. We advocate a European-style system, funded by insurance but underwritten by government
* We say Wales should use the powers it already has to improve things – though every Cardiff Bay Government so far has failed to do so.
Ultimately, Wales is a nation
We don’t need London to get in our way as we engage with the world on our own terms
