🚨The Government has today confirmed that Oxfordshire's current council structure will be replaced with three new unitary authorities, bringing an end to the existing county and district council system.

While opinions will differ on the model that has been chosen, our priority is now to ensure this transition is delivered successfully and that residents remain at the heart of every decision.

Another poor decision from the Liberal Democrats.

New data shows a BIG drop in household waste site use since they forced an appointment‑only system.

Residents deserve better.

At Cherwell District Council’s Full Council yesterday evening, LibDem, Labour and Greens Cllrs voted against our budget amendment, whilst Independent Cllrs voted for it.

Three-weekly bin collections will likely now begin from April 2027.

This follows on from a couple of weeks ago at Oxfordshire County Council where the Conservative budget amendment seeking more funding to repair the roads and to increase funding for the Fire Service was also rejected by LibDem, Labour and Green Party Cllrs.

Only voting Conservatives on 7 May will improve local services.

🚨Tonight, local Conservatives are representing local residents and businesses in calling for amendments to the Liberal Democrats’ Budget at Cherwell District Council as follows:

🗑️ Stop three-weekly bin collections
♻️ Freeze brown bin charges
🅿️ Make peak‑time parking free to support local businesses
🚨 Provide homelessness support for military veterans
🧹 Improve town‑centre cleaning and keep public toilets open
🌱 Increase rural litter‑picking after long‑term neglect by the Liberal Democrats-led Oxfordshire County Council.

Conservatives councillors listen to residents.

Will the Liberal Democrats finally listen to local residents and businesses and vote for these amendments?

🚨Local Conservatives announce budget amendment to: 🚨

LibDem & Green-run Cherwell District Council wants to reduce your green bin collections to once every three weeks, whilst putting Council Tax up by the legal limit.

LibDem and Green Cllrs also plan to increase your brown bin charges by 20% and car parking charges by up to 12%.

Local Conservatives have now tabled an urgent budget amendment to:

🗑️ Keep fortnightly bin collections.

By cutting wasteful Council spending, our amendment will also:

🗑️ Freeze your brown bin charges;

🅿️ Make car parking free at peak times to support our town centre businesses;

🚨 Provide homelessness support for local military veterans who have fallen on hard times;

🧹 Boost town centre street cleaning and keep public toilets open; and

🌱 Increase litter-picking in our rural parishes after years of neglect of verge maintenance by LibDem-run Oxfordshire County Council.

Last year, our budget amendment froze brown bin charges and provided much needed financial support to pensioners following Labour’s cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance.

This year, our amendment goes further to support local residents and businesses.

North Oxfordshire Conservatives urge the Liberal Democrat run County Council to reconsider the scale of the cuts. We argue that prevention and readiness are critical, and that the cost of reduced service could be far higher in the long term. We believe that there needs to be a more detailed and comprehensive analysis of the risks posed by such deep cuts.

The Consultation regarding Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue service closes on the 20th January 2026.

The Public Consultation can be filled out on the Oxfordshire County Council website.
