Farmers were told to lie down as we had no chance, Farmers Unite showed just what’s possible. We stalled the A1 with the police’s help! Then we stalled Westminster. We know how to get things done, and this A1 nightmare is getting done. It will take everyone getting behind it, but we will get it done. Share the hell out of this and when called upon, COME!

NORTHUMBERLAND A1 SAFETY ALLIANCE (NASA)

It shouldn’t be rocket science.

Over the coming months, NASA will compile and publish the definitive 10-year safety record of the A1 through Northumberland.

We will document:

• Fatal collisions
• Serious injuries
• Collision locations
• Road conditions
• Safety concerns raised by communities
• Promises made by authorities
• Progress made – or not made

This is not a political campaign.

This is not a blame campaign.

This is an evidence project.

Too many people have lost their lives. Too many families have been affected. Too many questions remain unanswered.

If you have information, reports, photographs, local knowledge, historical records, media coverage or personal experience relevant to A1 safety, we would like to hear from you.

Our aim is simple:

To produce the most comprehensive public record ever assembled on safety along the A1 through Northumberland.

Please read, please process and please give what you can. 🙏

FU’s position on the proposed fuel protests is as follows. We share the frustration and have been significantly impacted by rising fuel prices. We are drafting emergency proposals for The Treasury and will actively lobby for support.

At this stage, we will not block infrastructure. The public is suffering alongside us, and any action we take should be in solidarity with them, not against them.

However, if the government fails to respond with timely and meaningful support, we will reconsider our approach and direct pressure toward government rather than the public. While we recognise the strain on public finances, meaningful action is essential.

If His Majesty’s Government does not act, collective public unity will be our strongest force. You think we can create some problems with a few tractors and wagons - imagine tractors, wagons, vans, cars, motorcycles and anything the people decide they might use. Now that’s power. We’re Still Here & We’re Stronger Together. 🫵🏻🫡

Thank you to all that took part in the Farmers Unite Sleep Out For Tommy. We put together a small unit made of largely - currently serving and formerly serving Special Forces, Royal Marines, cavalry, TA & many of those are also farmers. Our FU-HQ provided us with our rations in the shape of an absolutely delicious beef stew made from beef provided by our very own Rip who was also kind enough to host us on his moor. With Storm Dave imminent we made camp on lower ground by a burn, lit a carefully dug fire and got settled in. It was of huge importance for us to do this and raise some money for a cause we all feel very passionate about, particularly given our focus on food security this past 18 months. With out a military we can not defend our nation, without our farmers we can not feed our nation. We raised more than £2100 and to you all that pledged we say a big thank you.

Amidst fuel shortages and cost of living crisis brought on by another mindless war - it was as refreshing as a pint of Hawkstone to see & hear farmers from across the UK come together, but this time they weren’t moaning. Lead by Farmers Unite very own Kat Shell, Mr Clarksons Hawkstones choir brought the house down. Proof ladies and gentlemen that if you really want to be heard by the public, don’t complain, do your best and sing! Well done all involved. Kat, you did us all proud here at home👌🫡

Farmers Unite alongside other grass roots groups and figures of influence spent the last 14 or so months lobbying. This has been by direct communication with MP’s such as David Smith MP, North Northumberland As well as organising our own rallies such as 150 tractors alongside our brilliant police force stalling the A1 en-route to County Hall where we won a motion to oppose government. And more recently we took 200 tractors & 200 foot soldiers into the centre of Newcastle leading a week long series of similar events around the country.

We all felt we had played our part in letting HMG know they needed to listen to us and re-examine their plans.

So it came as quite a surprise to us to hear our right honourable friend here pay tribute to that work considering only a week before the DEFRA minister Emma Reynolds went out of her way to dismiss the work of groups like ours and said the U-turn on IHT was purely down to the efforts of the NFU. A couple of things struck us as interesting. 1, most of our FU farmers and the vast majority of our other regional brethren are far from happy with the NFU and probably our next battle will most likely be them not HMG. 2, IHT is a treasury issue - absolutely nothing to do with DEFRA. So aside from being ineloquent and disrespectful what on earth was she talking about?

FU remains engaged and make no mistake is watching and listening with interest. Will we be going and blocking distribution centres and supermarkets? No. At least, not yet. It’s January, people are cold, broke and hungry. Whilst we understand our peer groups actions it’s not one we feel we want to be a part of. It is however hugely important to us that our amazing public support over the last 14 months is acknowledged in any way we can. From clearing snow to just getting on and producing food, we will continue to do our very best.

The situation remains bleak & a sad fact we are coming to terms with is that some of us will not survive. That is to some extent a natural course perhaps sped up by brutal government policies. But do not think for 1 moment we have gone away and given up. That would be a very, very, very big mistake. The FU-HQ is already plotting its next move, and with the incredible army we have that has consistently backed us and fought for us only growing by the day - look out, because

A very good if not difficult post by one of our areas great pubs. Farmers have led the charge for the last 14 months. We kept telling everyone, stop thinking this is about us not wanting to pay our taxes, it’s not that. This is about every business and therefore everyone - getting screwed. Us farmers as a sector have not stopped, dont be fooled. We’ve just got the sense to know if you really want to make a difference, you need numbers. As Turks Head Rothbury rightly points out, hospitality is a huge sector, we will be working closely with all our local businesses particularly the pubs and hotels to really bring this one message to the unavoidable attention of HMG & treasury. WE’RE STILL HERE!

Like many other parts of the UK, Northumberland farmers kept the roads clear yesterday. The council have small budgets for snow ploughing and gritting, they try to keep the major roads open, but it’s often all they can do. The farmers are more often than not the ones to go and keep the rest clear so emergency services can get through. Please remember, if you don’t have to go out in these more challenging conditions - dont. Thank a farmer if you do🫡👌 This pic is FU chief of security Dan “Rip” Spours filling up to go again having been at it all day.

On Behalf Of The FU-HQ Team, A Huge Thank You To Everyone That Has Liked, Shared & Commented On Our Posts Recently. Two In Particular Have Taken Off & Consequently Gained Us A lot Of New Friends. Why Is This Important? Because We Need The Message To Not Only Get Out There - But To Be The Correct Message. That Message Is This: We’re Still Here. There Were Very Few Winners In The Recent Budget Announcement. Things Are Going To Get A Lot Harder For Us All. The Absolute Best Thing That Can Happen Right Now, Is A Nation We Stick Together. This Government Are Not Popular, They’re Not Going To Last, But We All Will. Be Kind, Be Present, Be Real. Our Children Are Only As Good & As Capable As We Are. 👌🫡
