TUV praise Ballymena peaceful protest

Statement by TUV Ballymena councillor Matthew Armstrong:

“While there have been many voices of condemnation for protests which turned violent last night, the many which did not have been ignored. I believe that those loudest in their condemnation of the violence in other places but who refuse to face up to the issues so obviously highlighted by the events of Monday night positively welcome the opportunity to talk about trouble. They don’t want to talk about the open border which allowed the man now charged with attempted murder to come up on a bus from Dublin because they positively advocated for that madness.

“They claim that now is not the time to discuss immigration. Yet the day to discuss it never comes.

“But I want to welcome the fact that last night hundreds of people came out at the Seven Towers Roundabout to peacefully demand an end to open borders and an end to the importation of an alien culture into Northern Ireland.

“Councillor Christopher Jamieson, Alderman Stewart McDonald and I were proud to stand with our community as they demonstrated peacefully.

“Unless major protests of this nature are given the attention by the media they deserve, we run the risk of sending a message that violence is the only way society will listen.

“Media outlets need to reflect on that.”

Last Night’s Attack Suspect Entered Northern Ireland Through Dublin, Exposing the Folly of the Open Border With the Republic of Ireland

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister MP:

“The fact that the suspect detained in relation to last night’s brutal attack came to Northern Ireland via Dublin underscores the absolute folly of not having checks on the border with the Irish Republic.

“How many other characters like this have been able to just hop on a bus in Dublin and travel to this part of the UK no questions asked?

“TUV has been highlighting for months, that the open border with the Irish Republic is not just a constitutional outrage but madness when it comes to immigration policy.

“In light of last night’s horrific events this can no longer be brushed under the carpet.

“How many more attempted murders will we have to see before the border is enforced?

“The safety of people of all communities in Northern Ireland demands immediate action.”

TUV Leader and North Antrim MP Jim Allister KC Raises Serious Concerns Around Reported Cuts to Volunteer Coastguard Remuneration

Shocking reports reveal that HM Coastguard volunteers could lose their pay for emergency callouts and training.

This reckless move directly threatens the safety of many North Antrim coastal communities by risking vital volunteer recruitment and retention.

Statement by Jim Allister MP:

“Volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers provide an invaluable service in protecting lives around our coastline. If reports are correct that remuneration for callouts and training is to be withdrawn, then serious questions arise about the impact this will have on recruitment, retention and operational readiness.

“It would be deeply concerning if dedicated volunteers who already give up their time and put themselves in harm’s way were effectively being asked to do even more for less. I will be seeking clarification from the relevant authorities on the proposals and their implications for coastal communities.”

Savage attack indicative of the alien culture

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister MP:

"Last night’s murderous attack in North Belfast is not just savage in itself but indicative of the alien culture that has been imported through unchecked immigration.

"The brave intervention of locals is the only bright spot in this dark o**y of violence.

"There must be no hiding of the ethnicity and background of the attacker, such as we’ve seen in cases in GB, because such only stokes up tensions.

"Effective state action on uncontrolled immigration and knife crime is the only stabilising antidote in this dangerous situation. Cool heads, of course, are needed, but the police and the government must be shown to be effective.
I have tabled a request for an Urgent Oral Question in the Commons."

Statement by TUV deputy leader Councillor Ron McDowell:

“I was deeply shocked to learn of the serious stabbing incident in the Kinnaird Avenue area of North Belfast last night. A video of the incident on social media is one of the most horrific pieces of footage I have ever witnessed. The savagery on display is chilling.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family at what must be an incredibly traumatic time. I also want to pay tribute to the members of the public who showed incredible bravery in intervening to bring the assault to an end.

“I welcome the fact that an arrest has been made and look forward to swift and robust justice.

“There is a responsibility on the police and media organisations not to dance around this issue as there was following the Southport attacks.

“I note that Rupert Lowe MP has written to the Prime Minister calling for the immediate release of the nationality, immigration status and religion of the man who has been arrested.

“TUV supports and echoes that call. It must happen immediately."

Sinn Fein campaign against centenary stone shows staggering hypocrisy

Statement by TUV MLA Timothy Gaston:

“This campaign exposes a staggering level of hypocrisy from Sinn Fein.

“On the one hand, Republicans enthusiastically backed the er****on of a statue to furniture shop bomber Bobby Sands statue without planning permission and defended those responsible when questions were raised. On the other hand, they are now orchestrating a campaign to block planning permission for a modest memorial stone marking the centenary of Northern Ireland.

“The contrast could not be more striking.

“What is particularly revealing is the language used in many of the objections. Sinn Fein representatives openly describe Northern Ireland as a ‘criminal partition’, an ‘Orange state’ and a ‘six-county statelet’. They complain that a stone marking Northern Ireland’s centenary would somehow damage ‘social cohesion’ and make them uncomfortable.

“The truth is that Sinn Fein’s real objection has nothing whatsoever to do with planning policy. Their objection is that they cannot bring themselves to tolerate any recognition of Northern Ireland’s existence.

“For all the Republican rhetoric about respect, inclusion and parity of esteem, this episode demonstrates that those principles only seem to apply when nationalist symbols and narratives are involved.

“If a statue honouring an IRA furniture shop bomber can be defended without planning permission, then there can be no credible objection to a lawful planning application for a centenary memorial stone.”

TUV Condemns Pro-IRA Graffiti Attack on Rasharkin Orange Hall

Local TUV councillor Jonathan McAuley said:

“I am disgusted that Rasharkin Orange Hall was attacked late this evening. The culprits were captured on CCTV spraying graffiti on the walls and laughing.

“For decades the minority Unionist community has been subjected to attacks of this nature. Once again, the Orange Order — as the visible face of Protestant culture and identity in the village — has been the focal point.”

North Antrim MP Jim Allister added:

“I am disgusted that pro-IRA graffiti has been scrawled on Rasharkin Orange Hall. This is a clear attempt to intimidate not just members of the Order but the wider Unionist community in the area.

“Sadly, the truth is that there are those who will not be satisfied until the last Protestant leaves the village. It is time society generally called this vile bigotry out for what it is.

“Over the last 24 hours we have seen a torrent of abuse directed at Unionists for daring to stand at a peaceful protest against a Republican parade carrying a banner calling for the mass extermination of Jews. I will wait to see if there is a similar outcry when it comes to the actual criminal damage we have witnessed tonight. One suspects, however, that I will be waiting a long time.”

TUV MLA Timothy Gaston said:

“We will be raising this matter with the police and stressing to them the need for additional patrols and other measures to prevent further incidents of this nature as we enter the marching season. Not content with stopping parades in the village, it seems that Republicans are intent on removing every vestige of Protestantism and loyalism from the area.

“I know they will not succeed, and TUV will do all in our power to ensure that the authorities step up and take the necessary action to prevent any further similar incidents in the coming months.”
