🔥30 years over and out🔥
This is a big one!! Bakewell fire station says happy retirement to (as chesney hawkes once sang about "The one and only") Alyson you are the one and only!
Alyson joined Derbyshire fire and rescue service on the 16th March 1996 in an era when it's safe to say a female firefighter was an extremely rare thing. There's no doubt she had to overcome huge resistance at times from those that thought women couldn't cut it with the men but for those who have met her, well that was never going to stop Alyson. I think it would be fair to say she broke the mold and she would probably deny it her self but what a pioneer for women within the service.
After many years of serving as a firefighter, she stepped up and became the stations watch manager aka "The Boss" keeping the rest of the Bakewell crew in line. She's been a leader, role model, a confidant and at times even like a second mum to the vagabonds of Bakewell station, that have come and gone over the years she's served.
In recent years Alyson has had to overcome huge personal changes, (as Chumbawamba once sang)"I get knocked down and I get up again... Well that's just what she did....Super women got nothing on this lady!🦸🏼♀️
She has served Bakewell and its surrounding area in exemplary style (she's even been the town mayor on several occasions you know) legend is a word that often gets over used but not in this case.
So from all at Bakewell station the surrounding area and DFRS, it's time for us to say a huge big Thankyou to you🎉🎉
