As Town Mayor it was a real privilege to attend the D-Day tribute in the Market Square at the start of the Big Weekender.

The reading of The Longest Day and the Last Post played on the bugle were simple but powerful moments of remembrance — a reminder of this huge moment in history, and how much was given by so many. 🇬🇧

Thank you to everyone involved for organising such a dignified tribute as part of the Big Weekender. A really moving morning, filled with both pride and sadness.

Officers from trading standards on Saturday again visited Atherstone and had a further test purchase of counterfit ci******es.

As a result an inspection was then carried out at the store and found 134 packets of illegal ci******es and 20 packets of hand rolling to***co hidden in an old hide in the metal door.

The shop keeper and landlord will be dealt with for the offences by trading standards.

This store is a different premises to the shop in Atherstone High Street that has recently been forced to close to similar issues.

Officers will continue to address these concerns and will utilise powers to shut the shops with heavy fines for the operators.
