PUBLIC CONSULTATION – Proposed Parking & Loading Restrictions in Ash

Kent County Council and Dover District Council have issued updated statutory notices proposing changes to parking and loading restrictions across the district. Several of these directly affect Ash.

Residents are invited to submit comments in support or objection by 12 noon on Friday 11 September 2026.

What’s proposed for Ash (On Street Order Amendment No.7)

📍 The Street
- No loading between 8.30am–5.30pm, Monday–Saturday
Applied for 39.2 metres across the frontages of Nos. 37–35–2, added to the existing single yellow lines.

- No loading at any time
Added to the existing double yellow lines.

- New Loading Only Bay
Entire frontage of No. 20

📍 Chequer Lane
- No loading at any time
Added to the existing double yellow lines across the frontage of the Chequer Inn (32.6 metres).

Off Street Car Parks (DDC Amendment No.5)
For The Street and Queens Road car parks:
- 4 hour maximum stay
- No return within 2 hours
- Applies Monday–Saturday, 8.30am–5.30pm

Police Force Mergers

Have your say on the future of policing

The Government has proposed merging police forces, creating fewer and larger forces across England and Wales. These changes could affect local policing, visibility and accountability in our communities.

Please find attached a report from Kent Police relating to the incident at Guilton bus stop over the weekend.

The bus stop is owned by the Parish Council and will require rebuilding. We will update when we have further information to share on this.

Residents are reminded to report any issues involving illegal use of e-scooters to Kent Police online or via 101.

Further Vandalism at the New Play Area – Please Read

More mindless vandalism took place overnight at our new play area at the Recreation Ground.

This space was opened less than one month ago for the benefit of younger residents and families, delivered at significant cost and time, with generous donations from local charitable organisations helping to fund it.

With the summer holidays now underway, we remind parents and carers to speak with children about respectful behaviour in our public spaces. The play area was created for them.

Antisocial and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated. If you witnessed anything that may be relevant, please report it to Kent Police online or via 101. Without official reports, no action can be taken.

Thank you to everyone who continues to respect and look after our community spaces.

Dover District Council are consulting on proposed changes to parking in The Street and Queens Road car parks.

DDC own and manage these car parks, and any decisions on restrictions sit with them.

They are proposing free parking with a maximum stay of 4 hours, no return within 2 hours, from 08:30–17:30, Monday–Saturday.

Thank You from the Parish Council

Yesterday we were alerted to litter and other unpleasant mess at Pound Corner, one of our valued community spaces.

Before the Parish Council was able to attend, the area had already been cleaned. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to whoever took the time to tidy the site so that others can continue to enjoy it.

If the litter bin is full, please use the additional bin located just across the road. Thank you for helping to keep our public spaces clean, respected and welcoming for everyone.

Parking Issues at Pound Corner – Please Report to Dover District Council

We know many residents are concerned about the illegal and irresponsible parking around Pound Corner, and we want to reassure you that both Kent County Council and Dover District Council have been made fully aware of the ongoing problems.

These issues sit with them to resolve, and we continue to raise the impact this behaviour is having on our village.

For enforcement to take place, Dover District Council must receive formal reports. They are the enforcing authority for parking, and they rely on direct reporting to understand when and where problems are happening.

Comments on Facebook unfortunately aren’t seen by DDC’s enforcement team, so they cannot act on them.

Vandalism in Ash

Overnight, mindless and deliberate vandalism has taken place at the Recreation Ground and in other areas of the village.

Tar/bitumen has been poured across our public spaces, causing damage, mess and disruption for residents.

The Recreation Ground is a place for children to play, and for residents and wildlife to enjoy. Acts like this undermine the safety and wellbeing of our whole community.

Thank you to those who have already reported this and to the residents who have picked up litter left behind. Your support is appreciated.

This antisocial and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated.
The Parish Council is liaising with Kent Police, who are aware of the incidents.

We are arranging for the affected areas to be cleaned, but due to the nature of the damage this will take time. Please bear with us while we work to restore these spaces.

If incidents are only discussed on social media, no action can be taken and no record is created. Reporting is essential for Police to understand the scale of the problem and allocate resources.

Good News Friday!

Congratulations to Ash Village Events who have received a grant of £500 from DDC as part of Dover District Council’s Community Grants Scheme.

Along with a grant £275.80 provided by Ash Parish Council this will help the group bring back the fantastic tractor event for our community this Christmas!

DDC will open another round of funding in the winter months, when a further £50k will be available for local groups.
