I’ve written to the new Chair of Court at the University of Dundee ahead of tomorrow’s Court meeting to raise serious concerns about the proposed redundancies and the impact they are having on staff and students.

The University is now proposing more than 1,000 redundancies in under two years. Yet it appears to be just 38 FTE short of the staffing target previously agreed by Court and set out in its Strategy to Recovery.

That cannot be ignored.

I’ve also raised concerns about the lack of meaningful engagement with staff and campus unions, and the support being offered to those facing redundancy.

Many staff have contacted me in recent months, expressing their desperation and anxiety about what lies ahead.

I want to see the University recover and thrive. But that recovery cannot come at the expense of the people who make the University what it is — or the future of our city.

I’ve asked for an urgent meeting with the Chair of Court and will continue to press for a plan that protects staff, supports students and puts the University on a sustainable path forward.

A brilliant visit to Lossie Seafoods in Arbroath last week, seeing first-hand the people and expertise behind one of our key industries locally.

From the sea to the factory floor to our dinner tables, Arbroath has a proud and historic connection to Scotland’s maritime industries — supporting skilled jobs and our communities.

It was great to hear directly from the team about the opportunities and challenges facing the industry, and what we can do to support a strong future for local food and seafood production - as well the continued success of brand Scotland.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love trying new sports. I truly believe in the power of sport to bring our communities together, so it was a pleasure to drop into the Arbroath Indoor Bowling Club today.

The team here work so hard to empower people of all ages to try something new, and provide a vital space community space for folk across Angus. I really enjoyed hearing how much the club gives back to the town, and I was even coached by our very own world champion Darren Burnett!

The V&A Dundee is a beacon of design, creativity and innovation and it was wonderful to be celebrating Dundee’s history as we hosted the Scotland Fashion Now graduate show last night.

To all of the graduates, models and supervisors: a huge congratulations for pulling off such an incredible showcase. You are a true testament to Scotland’s design heritage.

Thank you to Leonie Bell and all of the staff at the V&A Dundee for hosting us and for making Dundee proud.

The world has changed. Our energy policy must change with it — but those decisions should be Scotland’s to make.

For decades, Tory and Labour governments have made decisions on Scotland’s energy and industrial future from Westminster — with the consequences felt here by our workers and communities.

Scotland has the resources and the expertise to shape our own energy future. It’s time the power was in Scotland’s hands.

Tory or Labour. Blue or red. Different UK governments, same outcome for Scotland.

The scars of Thatcher’s deindustrialisation are still felt in communities across Scotland. Decades later, successive Westminster governments continue to make decisions that put jobs, industries and workers at risk.

For our communities in the North East and across Scotland, it doesn’t matter what colour Westminster is when the result is the same — lost jobs, weakened industries and communities left behind.

📰 My latest column for the Angus County Press on the Scottish Young Carers Festival and the importance of recognising the contribution carers make, and of ensuring that support is there throughout every stage of their lives.

Within our communities voices can too easily go unheard or find themselves at the edges of policymaking, without a seat at the table. Young carers are one example of that, and listening to their experiences is essential if we are to make decisions that genuinely reflect the lives of the people we represent.

✍️ During the festival, I was proud to sign the Young Carers’ Pledge. When I signed it, I wrote a commitment that I want to carry through my work as an MP: “To stand by you at every stage of your life. To listen, to learn from you, and to make sure that you are always at the centre of the conversation.”
