An opportunity to help shape East Suffolk! East Suffolk Council is inviting residents, workers, and visitors to share their views on the local area as part of its new Place shaping project.

The initiative aims to improve the district by shaping future planning policies based on public feedback.
People can contribute by using an interactive online map to highlight places they like, dislike, or think need improvement, as well as by completing a short survey.

In addition, guided walking tours will take place in nearby Woodbridge, Framlingham, and Leiston, giving participants a chance to share their opinions directly with the project team during 90-minute sessions.

Councillor Mark Packard said public input will play a key role in shaping the future of East Suffolk’s buildings, streets, and spaces.

The consultation is open until 24th April, after Walking tours mentioned will take place as follows:
Woodbridge: Tuesday 21st April at 10am, 1pm or 4pm.
Framlingham: Wednesday 22nd April at 10am, 1pm or 4pm.
Leiston: Thursday 23rd April at 10am, 1pm or 4pm.

Children have been digging holes on Kemps Field, which is extremely dangerous. These holes can cause serious injury to others using the field.

The children involved have been identified, but before any further action is taken, please ensure this stops immediately.

If children want to dig, it should be done safely in their own garden—not on public grounds.

You may have heard on the news today that the Government has confirmed that Suffolk will move away from its current two-tier system (county + district councils) to a new unitary council structure, where fewer councils deliver all services in one place.

What this means for Aldeburgh residents:

🏛 Fewer councils – Services currently split between Suffolk County Council and East Suffolk Council will be brought together under one authority.
📞 Simpler services – Things like roads, planning, housing, waste, and social care will be handled by the same council, making it easier to know who to contact.
💰 Potential savings & efficiency – The aim is to reduce duplication and improve how services are delivered.
🗳 Changes to representation – New council structures and elections will be introduced during the transition.

The government has announced its decision on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Suffolk in 2028, opting for three unitary authorities – despite clear evidence that this is not the best outcome for Suffolk.

The next Sizewell C Main Development Site (MDS) Forum is scheduled for Wednesday 15 April 2026, bringing together representatives from East Suffolk Council, Suffolk County Council, local town and parish councils, and the Sizewell C project team.

These forums provide an important opportunity to discuss construction progress and the impact on local communities.

On Thursday evening, Aldeburgh Town Council hosted its Annual Meeting, celebrating the many individuals, community organisations and clubs that make the town so special.

More than 18 local representatives came together to share their highlights, updates, purpose and future plans. The evening left everyone feeling fortunate to have such a wide range of active groups on their doorstep, and full of admiration for the dedication and hard work that goes into supporting the community.

From caring for people and services, to protecting the landscape and preserving local heritage, the contributions made across Aldeburgh are invaluable. There are too many to mention individually, but here are a few photos that capture the spirit of the evening...

🚨 SCAM WARNING – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

We’ve received reports of individuals locally posing as representatives from EDF. They are claiming they need to inspect solar panels and then suggesting there is a fault with the “converter” — often to pressure homeowners into paying for unnecessary or fraudulent repairs.

⚠️ Please stay vigilant:
• EDF will NOT contact you out of the blue or send someone unannounced, especially claiming your original installer is no longer operating
• Always ask to see official ID and never feel pressured to let anyone into your home
• If in doubt, contact EDF directly using their official contact details

📞 Report any suspicious activity to:
• Police (101 – non-emergency)
• Citizens Advice/Trading Standards

Temporary Toilet Closure – Aldeburgh Seafront

The gentlemen’s public toilets opposite the Moot Hall on the seafront in Aldeburgh are currently closed until further notice.

The Operations Team at East Suffolk Council is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks everyone for their patience while the matter is being addressed.

We support English Tourism Week 2026 which takes place from 13th–22nd March, celebrating the vibrant and diverse tourism sector across England. Led by VisitEngland, the campaign highlights the quality, value and importance of tourism to local communities and the national economy.

Tourism plays a vital role in the local economy of Aldeburgh, supporting independent businesses, local jobs and the character of this much-loved Suffolk coastal town.

Visitors travel to Aldeburgh throughout the year to enjoy its beautiful shingle beach, fresh seafood, independent shops and galleries, and its relaxed seaside atmosphere. Tourism helps sustain many small businesses along the High Street, from cafés and restaurants to boutique shops, accommodation providers and local artisans.

The town is also internationally recognised for cultural events such as the Aldeburgh Festival, founded by composer Benjamin Britten, which brings visitors from across the UK and beyond.

Beyond the economic impact, tourism helps celebrate and preserve Aldeburgh’s heritage, fishing traditions and coastal environment. Visitors support local markets, food producers and creative businesses, helping the town remain vibrant while sharing its unique charm with new generations.

For towns like Aldeburgh, tourism is more than an industry — it is a way of sustaining community life while welcoming people to experience the beauty, culture and tranquillity of the Suffolk coast, and for those of us who live in the town - aren't we just so lucky to be living in such a desirable and gorgeous place!
