er thousands of young people from across the European Union and beyond, right at the heart of European democracy. The EYE is a unique opportunity for 16- to 30 year-olds to inspire and get inspired, to debate directly with Members of the European Parliament and other European decision-makers, and to exchange views with experts, activists and content creators. . The euro had a soft launch. 💶

On this day in 1998, the European Central Bank (ECB) was established 🏦, months before the euro officially launched and years before anyone could pay with euro banknotes or coins.

So, what does the ECB actually do? 🤑 It is the central bank for the EU countries that use the euro. Its main task is to keep prices stable, helping your money retain its value. It also contributes to safer banks and smoother payment systems.

The euro officially launched in 1999, but banknotes and coins only entered our wallets in 2002. 👛 Today, it is used by 21 EU countries, with Bulgaria becoming the newest member of the euro area on 1 January 2026. 🇧🇬

🔄 EPAS loading...

At first, EU politics can feel a bit blurry.
A bunch of institutions, acronyms, decisions being made somewhere far away... 🤷‍♀️

Then you discover EPAS.
The European Parliament Ambassador School Programme helps students understand not only how the European Union works, but also the role of the European Parliament and how European democracy shapes their everyday lives.

For the past 10 years, EPAS has been helping young people across Europe connect, learn and experience the EU beyond the classroom.

Through debates, events, campaigns, meetings with Members of the European Parliament and community projects, students gain a better understanding of their rights as EU citizens, the work of the European Parliament, and how they can actively participate in democratic life.

And it’s not just a handful of schools. Today, the EPAS community includes more than 🏫 2000 schools, 👩‍🏫 5500 teachers and almost 🎓 40 000 students across Europe. 🇪🇺

Tiny question: if you paid for a game… should someone be able to switch it off later? 🎮👀

Because for some games, that can happen.

🖊️ More than 1.2 million Europeans supported the “Stop Destroying Videogames” initiative, arguing that games sold to players shouldn’t suddenly stop working after official support ends.

Supporters say this is about consumer rights and digital ownership. 🧑‍💻 Critics argue online games are more complicated and keeping them running is not always realistic.

Now, the European Commission has until 26 July to decide what happens next.

Did you miss what happened in the European Parliament this week?
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered ⬇️

🏅 European Order of Merit - The first ceremony for the European Order of Merit took place in Strasbourg, recognising figures from politics, human rights, culture and sport who have contributed to European integration and the defence of shared European values.

⚖️ Stronger rights for victims of crime - Parliament backed updated rules to make it easier for victims to report crimes and access support services, including through online tools, a new EU-wide helpline and stronger protections during criminal proceedings.

🫶 More equal sharing of care responsibilities - Parliament called for better recognition and support for carers, while also encouraging a fairer sharing of care work between women and men through measures such as flexible working arrangements and stronger social protection.

🚆 Smoother train travel across Europe - New EU rules aim to improve coordination between national rail networks, helping reduce delays, improve punctuality and make cross-border train travel more reliable.

12 sessions in the books… and it’s a wrap ✨

This school year has been incredibly fruitful for Euroscola. So many of you, from all across Europe, including Member States, candidate countries and former member states, came together to discover what goes on inside the European Parliament and what it feels like to be a Member for a day 🇪🇺

Debates, new friendships, unforgettable moments and inspiring discussions made each session truly special.

A huge thank you to all participants, speakers and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this project such an unforgettable experience ❤️

Taking an international train in Europe sometimes feels a bit… unpredictable. 🚆

The European Parliament just gave the final green light to new rules aimed at making cross-border rail traffic run more smoothly.

The goal is simple:
⌚ fewer delays,
🛂 smoother journeys,
🚄 trains that work better across borders!

And yes, rail operators causing major disruptions could now face consequences too. 👀

Europe is built by people.

Today, the first laureates of the European Order of Merit were honoured at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. 🏅

This new EU distinction recognises people who have helped build European unity and defend democracy, peace, human rights and European values.

And as President Roberta Metsola said, the baton is now with the next generation. 🫵
