The A-26 light bomber returning from a successful bombing mission over the Netherlands. When landing on the airfield at Melun-Villaroche the first pilot Lt George Hubert Steed Jr finds it runs out of fuel. The pilot is killed while the bomber navigator T / Sgt Carl E. Tranchina is seriously injured. It will die in 1994. The cenotaph seems to have been made at the end of the war in memory of the two men, with pieces of iron rod and concrete by the local population. In 1997, an anonymous stele erected the current unofficial form of half cross of Lorraine in the maintaining and the flowering regularly. Pending an official monument, all February 8 temporary plate affixed to restore the true story of the cenotaph. A draft stele official is being investigated with the Municipality. Le bombardier léger A-26 rentrait d'une mission de bombardement réussi sur les Pays-Bas. Au moment d'atterrir sur l'aérodrome de Melun-Villaroche, le pilote 1er Lt George Hubert Steed Jr constate qu'il est à court de carburant. En perte de vitesse l'appareil s'écrase dans la forêt de Sénart. Le pilote trouve la mort tandis que le bombardier navigateur T/Sergeant Carl E. Tranchina est grièvement blessé. Ce dernier décèdera en 1994. Le cénotaphe semble avoir été réalisé à la fin de la guerre en mémoire des deux hommes, à l'aide de morceaux de tige de fer et de béton par la population locale. En 1997, un anonyme éleva l'actuelle stèle officieuse en forme de demi croix de Lorraine en l'entretenant et en la fleurissant régulièrement. Dans l'attente d'une stèle officielle, tous les 08 février une plaque temporaire est apposée pour rétablir la véritable histoire de ce cénotaphe. Un projet de stèle officielle est à l'étude avec la Municipalité.
