STATEMENT ON THE EVE OF ZAMBIA'S 62ND INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY.

Fellow citizens,

Good evening.

Tomorrow marks 62 years since our forefathers and mothers lifted our national flag, with pride and determination.

On 24th October, 1964, Zambia achieved the sovereign right to define our own destiny, and we began a journey to build a united, peaceful and prosperous nation.

On this eve, we honour the courage and sacrifice of our independence heroes and heroines, Kenneth David Kaunda, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Alexander Grey Zulu, Humphrey Mulemba, Nalumino Mundia, Mama Julia Chikamoneka, Mama Betty Chilombo Chilunga, among others.

This year's theme is: Zambia at 62: Our journey, our growth, our future.

At 62, we reflect on our journey with pride. Under our motto, One Zambia, One Nation, One People, we have walked the path of peace, unity, stability and progress. We have built schools, hospitals, roads, airports and power stations.

We have held elections and seen smooth transitions of leadership. Through every challenge, the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation, One People, has kept us united.

As we reflect on our growth, we celebrate our citizens as a smart hard-working people.

The resilience of our farmers, the hard work of our miners, the creativity of our youth, the courage of our armed forces, the resourcefulness of our women, and the tenacity of our entrepreneurs.

Our ultimate focus now is our future. The Grow Zambia Agenda moves us from economic stabilisation to accelerated growth.

We want to produce more maize, more wheat and more copper.

We are generating more electricity, attracting more tourists and facilitating more exports, all while safeguarding the vulnerable and building strong institutions.

We are a family made up of unique cultures from all corners of our country, but united as one country. When we face challenges, we do not break. We come together.

We salute our youth. They fought for our independence and our democracy. Today, they are the backbone of our economy, our innovators and our leaders.

Zambia is blessed with abundant natural resources. Let us protect them and use them sustainably for present and future generations.

We stood tall through every storm. Let us now look to the future with confidence, and recommit ourselves to hard and smart work, discipline, integrity and service. We are a nation that continues to build, to reform and to rise together.

Let us celebrate our 62nd Independence Anniversary with joy and unity. Let us celebrate in peace, and celebrate responsibly.

We wish you all a happy and memorable 62nd Independence Anniversary.

May God bless you all.

And may God continue to bless the Republic of Zambia.

Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia.

BIKERS URGES TO BE CAUTIOUS ON BUSY ROADS

A concerned resident of Monze District has expressed concern on the behavior of motorbike riders in the District.

Speaking to sky fm in a walk in interview Bridget Milimo explained that the behavior of the motorbike riders in Monze should be curtailed by the law enforcers and caution the riders to be mindful when on busy sides of the roads.

Ms Milimo said this after witnessing a bushing of a school boy this morning by a motorbike rider which also led to the fall of pillon.

She said from the time motorbikes were introduced as a mode of transport in Monze a lot of accidents have been recorded causing injuries to the pillons and also to the riders themselves.

Ms Milimo further called upon parents with school going children to make sure they es**rt their young ones to the school entry and also urge the bikers to remember that busy roads are not for cruising .

She has also urged the pillons to always control the riders whenever they are picked as they are the ones at a high risk.

FORMER PEMBA SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPILS DONATES A BOREHOLE TO PEMBA SECONDARY SCHOOL SDA CHURCH.

The government has commended Former Pemba Secondary School pupils for officially handed over a borehole to Pemba Secondary School Seventh-day Adventist Church valued at K64'305.

Speaking in her key note address, Pemba District Education Board Secretary Leffie Bbampaninga thanked the Pemba Secondary School Alumni for supplementing the Government's effort on access to clean and safe drinking water for the citizens.

Ms Bbampaninga said it is encouraging to see the former Pemba Secondary School pupils coming together and helping the church in the area of need which should be emulated by other former Pemba Secondary School pupils who have not yet joined the Association.

Pemba DEBS adds that the former Pemba Secondary School pupils did not just help the church at school with water but previously they worked on the dinning hall lighting system, bought benches for the church and financed the baptism pool which she said will go a long way in helping the school.

Ms Bbampaninga stated that the borehole installed will not only help Pemba Secondary School pupils but also the community around.

She has further urged the current Pemba Secondary School pupils to emulate what their seniors have done by ploughing back to the school once they are done with their studies.

And Speaking during the handover,
Former Pemba Secondary school Alumni Association Chairperson Dr Kiru Sichoongwe explained that the idea of hand pump donation arrived after the Pemba Alumni Association realized the water challenge at the church of their former School.

Dr Sichoongwe added that the celebration of a borehole handover is not a mare celebration but God's purpose and power of giving back.

He said the borehole handed over will help in access to safe and clean drinking water which in turn will help in reducing diarrheal diseases such as Cholera and dysentery and this will also contribute to the Grow Zambia Agenda.

And Rusangu Conference Executive Secretary Pastor Prince Ng'andu thanked the Pemba Secondary School Alumni on behalf of the conference saying the gesture they have contributed to the church will go a long way in helping pupils at secondary school and the community around.

Pst Ng'andu has assured the Pemba Secondary School Alumni that the borehole will be guarded with the jealousy it deserves.
