Air Commodore Pete Warmerdam RAF, is Head of British Defence Staff Oceania.

He was honoured to experience a traditional sevusevu alongside the Acting British High Commissioner in Waiqanake Village; where we received a warm welcome and cultural insight at this beautiful coastal village.

The children at the local school raised the roof with their singing and in the torrential rain at Bilo Gun Battery we reflected on conflicts past and present.

Air Commodore Pete has a regional remit alongside his role as UK to DA to AUS. His visit to the Defence Section in Suva was a chance to meet some of our stakeholders in Fiji and to celebrate the people-to-people links between our countries

The United Kingdom is pleased to see the progress of the CARA-funded URTF project and the results it is delivering across the Asia-Pacific region.

The UK values how the project is supporting practical, locally led solutions that strengthen resilience, enhance institutional capacity, and foster collaboration among partners.

We are particularly encouraged by the traction in the Pacific, where support is helping translate plans into tangible actions, benefiting communities, protecting livelihoods, and reinforcing nature-based approaches in the face of growing climate challenges.

The UK and New Zealand High Commissions met with Camco and Sarona Asset Management today as part of our joint efforts to encourage and accelerate investment in Fiji and the Pacific in renewable energies.

The UK and New Zealand-supported Transforming Island Development through Electrification and Sustainability (TIDES) fund is an innovative investment mechanism that will bring more private sector investment to Fiji and grow the deployment of renewables.

Domestic clean energy is the best route to Fiji being less affected by global fossil fuel shocks and also helping combat climate change.

The UK is proud to be partnering with New Zealand, Fiji and Camco, and we look forward to the first projects getting underway in the next 12 months.
