"We are here to help."

This was the message of reassurance relayed by the members of the Fiji Police Retired Officers Association to the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and senior command during a talanoa session on Friday 12 June 2026, in Suva.

A brief provided by retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Isikeli Vuniwaqa outlined four thematic areas of assistance which included mentoring, advisory roles, friendly force concept and institutional reconciliation, to address institutional matters that have for years impacted personnel and organizational direction.

Mr. Vuniwaqa conveyed the Associations’ concerns on issues impacting policing in a rapidly evolving criminal and social landscape, adding the retirees stood ready to assist, by reinvesting their experiences and knowledge with serving members in the five policing divisions.

Mr. Vuniwaqa said Association members felt strongly about their oath to serve beyond retirement as they had valuable experience and knowledge to share with serving members, hence the approach made to formalise networking arrangements for safe communities for all.

The move was welcomed by the Commissioner of Police and senior Command, whereby steps would be pursued to formalise networking arrangements.

Commissioner Tudravu acknowledged internal challenges which were being addressed through institutional reforms under his strategic leadership intent of “Stability and Growth”, focused on realigning policing best practices which had been impacted by external pressures.

Commissioner Tudravu said the review of the 1965 Police Act was a move in the right direction in ensuring policing remained relevant and was able to address modern policing challenges.

He thanked the Association for their loyalty to the organisation and policing profession, adding the move will augur well with the current momentum of bringing back the culture of policing, centered on professional and ethical service delivery.

Also present during the meeting were representatives of the Fiji Police Retired Wives Association.

The twelve officers involved in the arrest of the late Sakiasi Ose Radravu have been questioned by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department.

Investigation has confirmed the direct involvement of four officers in the apprehension.

The four officers have been directed to take pending leave, following which, they will be interdicted with half salary followed by internal disciplinary proceedings by the Internal Affairs Department.

Through the interview process, it has been established that a lone officer from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces was involved, and not members of the Joint Task Force as earlier claimed.

With regards to Mr. Radravu’s death, the Death Register (DR) Investigation File is being compiled for forward submission to the Resident Magistrate with recommendation for a full inquest.

This step has been communicated with Mr. Radravu’s mother as his next of kin, who has also provided a signed statement acknowledging the findings.

The Fiji Police Force is also urging anyone who wishes to share any information to do so through official reporting channels, as progress on this process will only be communicated to Mr. Radravu’s next of kin, his mother.
