"This goes beyond drafting, it's about an African strategy that recognizes artisanal and small-scale mining as a legitimate economic sector with potential to create jobs, strengthen local value chains, and foster inclusive development."
— Dean Bhebhe, Director, ACL, at the ASM Continental Strategy BookSprint in Victoria Falls.
A strategy that treats the sector on its own terms: as a driver of jobs and value, not an afterthought.

"Designing an ASM Continental Strategy is about creating a unified framework that transforms livelihoods, strengthens governance, and ensures no miner is left behind on Africa's journey toward sustainable industrialization."
— Engr. Sithole, AGJEC/AMDC Committee Chairperson (Zimbabwe), speaking at the ASM Continental Strategy BookSprint in Victoria Falls.

A clear reminder of what this work is ultimately for: governance and inclusion, together.

Strong institutions require strong standards.

A harmonised approach to classifying, reporting, and managing mineral and energy resources is essential for transparency, investor confidence, and responsible resource development across Africa.

Through initiatives such as AMREC-PARC, the continent continues to build the frameworks needed to align resource governance with Africa’s development priorities.

Artisanal and Small Scale Mining (ASM) is an important driver of employment, local enterprise, and economic development across Africa. However, the sector continues to face barriers that limit its full potential.

The ASM Continental Strategy seeks to provide a coordinated framework that supports formalization, responsible mining practices, stronger institutions, and sustainable growth across the continent.

Through the ASM Continental Strategy BookSprint, experts and stakeholders are working together to develop a strategy that reflects Africa's realities and aspirations. By combining knowledge and practical experience, the BookSprint aims to produce a resource that can help shape a stronger future for the ASM sector.

Day 2 in Victoria Falls. 🇿🇼

We are refining the ASM Continental Strategy, aligning it with legal and policy frameworks, and sharpening the recommendations that will shape formalization, finance access, and value chain development for Artisanal and Small Scale Mining across the continent.

The conversations are candid, the collaboration is real, and the strategy is taking shape one session at a time.

Three more days to go. 💪🏾

A stronger continental reporting framework can help Africa turn its mineral wealth into transparent, credible, and sustainable growth.

The AMREC-PARC Code can support African countries to improve transparency, strengthen investor confidence, and create a more attractive environment for responsible investment.

Strong, credible resource reporting is central to Africa’s mineral development agenda.

The P-ARC Assessment Committee represents an important step toward harmonising reporting standards, strengthening the pool of Competent Persons, and building investor confidence in Africa’s mineral and energy resources.

“PARC is a critical tool for advancing the African Mining Vision and Agenda 2063 by building a transparent, inclusive and sustainable resource sector that truly benefits Africa’s people.”

— Ron Osman Omar

Director, IMET, African Union

At the heart of this work is AMREC: the African Mineral and Energy Resources Classification and Management System. AMREC gives Africa a continental system for classifying and managing mineral and energy resources, aligned with the Africa Mining Vision, Agenda 2063 and the SDGs.

Through AMREC, Africa can strengthen resource governance, improve the quality of public reporting, support better investment decisions, and ensure that mineral and energy development delivers social, environmental and economic value for the continent.

The workshop on the constitution of the Pan African Resource Reporting Code (PARC) Assessment Committee has officially commenced in Nairobi, Kenya.

AMREC-PARC provides Africa with a common, credible framework for classifying, managing and publicly reporting mineral and energy resources. It strengthens transparency, improves professional competency, and helps align resource reporting with the Africa Mining Vision, Agenda 2063 and sustainable development priorities.

Africa’s mineral and energy resources must be reported in a way that builds confidence among governments, investors, communities and professional bodies, while ensuring that resource development delivers social, environmental and economic benefits for the continent.
