# Position Statement on PLATER
# # # Mas de Cosme – Association for Nature Conservation and Self-Exploration
The energy transition is one of the greatest challenges of our time. As an environmental association, **Mas de Cosme** supports the development of renewable energy as an essential contribution to climate protection.
However, we also believe that the implementation of renewable energy must respect the unique ecological, cultural and historical landscapes of the **Terres de l'Ebre**.
For this reason, we have submitted an official objection (*al·legació*) to the current **PLATER** consultation.
Our position is **not against renewable energy**.
Our position is in favour of **better planning**.
Many areas currently classified as forest were historically cultivated and still contain terraces, dry-stone walls and other elements of traditional cultural landscapes. Future opportunities for ecological restoration, wildfire prevention, sustainable land management and other lawful land uses should not be unnecessarily restricted by today's planning decisions.
We therefore ask that the PLATER process:
* respects the diversity of local landscapes and their historical development;
* considers future possibilities for ecological restoration and sustainable land management;
* evaluates each area individually rather than relying solely on broad territorial classifications;
* balances renewable energy with biodiversity, wildfire prevention, cultural heritage and the long-term resilience of rural communities.
This discussion is not only about where wind turbines or solar parks may be built.
It is also about how we imagine the future of our landscapes.
At Mas de Cosme, we believe that climate action, nature conservation and sustainable rural development should strengthen each other—not compete with one another.
For this reason, today's submission marks the beginning of a new long-term initiative:
**Juristical Research – Sustainable Land Use in Catalonia**
This project will explore how forest law, land-use planning, ecological restoration, biodiversity, wildfire prevention and renewable energy can work together within a coherent legal and environmental framework.
We invite researchers, environmental organisations, municipalities, landowners and citizens to join this constructive dialogue.
The future of Catalonia deserves solutions based on knowledge, cooperation and respect for both nature and people.
