WEDNESDAY 10th JUNE WINE TASTING EVENT

There are over 50 meals pre-sold for this event to British residents from El Raso alone.
As part of the Ñora and King Prawn week, the wine tasting, and new for this year, a superb value special meal, has been taken up by the public in large numbers.
If you would like a pre-paid ticket just call into the tourist office in the main square and collect your tickets. You can also just arrive on the night.
Wine tasting is 5€ which is donated to Charity and the fabulous meal from one of Guardamars' finest restaurants, Rincón de Pedro, is just 10€ for this event only.

Guardamar to receive funding for workshop to improve the water heritage of the area.
The Town Hall has managed to acquire an employment workshop which, starting in Autumn, will refurbish the old slaughterhouse located opposite the old San Antonio milling building.
It is envisaged to contract 24 unemployed people who are over 25, for 6 months to complete the work, along with 4 teachers. The 219,000€ subsidy will be administered through SERVEF, the employment office for the region.

The VIII annual cooking competion, Monday 1st June

Competitors from 8 autonomous communities will compete for the prize in the King Prawn and Ñora (sweet pepper) gastronomy competition.
From 26 entrants, the combatants have been reduced to 10 finalists from the first round of judging held on 14th May. Amongst others there are entries from the Valencian Community, Andalucia, Cataluña and Madrid.
The finalists will cook on the 1st of June in El Jardin restaurant (Hotel Meridional). The dishes will be anonymously presented to the jury. The public is invited to view the proceedings, especially if you are food lovers, which start at 4pm. There will be opportunities to taste some of the entries

Related to the cuisine week, we remind you of the annual Wine Tasting at Rincón de Pedro on Wed. 10th June at 8pm.
On this special evening there is a superb value special dinner for the wine tasting participants.
Priced at JUST 10 EUROS, the main course is either the famous Rincón de Pedro Fideua (pasta noodle paella) OR entrecôte steak.
There are already more than 40 meal tickets sold, available from the Tourist Office or El Raso Wine Club.

Programme of “IMSERSO tourism, season 2015-2016”

To contribute to the wellbeing of older people the IMSERSO organises distinct trips with the objective that one can enjoy well earned holidays, opting for the following choices:
- Stays in coastal or island areas for rest and relaxation.
- Inland tourism to make cultural circuits, nature tourism, trips to cities of artistic and cultural interest.

CONDITIONS TO PARTICIPATE:
Be resident in Spain and comply with one of the following:
- Be a retired pensioner from the Spanish public pensions system.
- Be a widowed pensioner over 55
- Pensioners for other reasons, or receiver of benefits or unemployment, but in all cases over 60 years old.
- Be receiver or beneficiary of the Social Security system, with 65 years completed.

You can participate with your spouse or partner without them fulfilling the age or pension requisites. Also, children with disability percentage of 45% or more, when and always their disability alllows them to travel and share a room with the parents. In all cases applicants must care for themselves and not have behavioral disorders that prevent normal coexistence in hotels.

PERIOD OF PRESENTATION OF REQUESTS:
Requests can be made in the Social Welfare office on the 1st floor of the Town Hall until the 4th June 2015. However, the deadline for submission will be open until November 30, 2015 for those who have not made the request within the time ; in this case there will be no scaling and you will be credited to cover any vacancies that may occur.

SERVICES:
- Return trips by the mode of transport published, from the capital of the province to the destination hotel and return, except for the type of journeys without transport.
- Accomodation, full board, in double room to share, in hotels selected by IMSERSO. Single occupancy can be considered with a supplement and subject to availability.
- Group insurance policy.
- Medical service, (NHS) in each hotel.

Fully translated into English, it provides a full pictorial history of salt extraction, and clues to the people that worked there over the centuries.

Notice to all European residents with entitlement to vote

The municipal council elections are held on Sunday the 24th May.

Depending on where you live, your polling station may vary. This can be found on the card you should have received with "TARJETA CENSAL" printed on it.
If you live in the Campo de Guardamar, or any of the Urbanizations, you will vote at the Town Hall at street level on the corner by the bank and NOT by the cafetería.
Polls are open from 9am to 8pm to cast your vote
You need an acceptable official ID, this being any of:
national ID card, Passport, or EU photo driving licence.
If you believe you are registered but have not received the card, please check on the ground floor of the Town Hall.

If you are originally from the UK, please note that you vote for the party not the candidate, for which preprinted party list voting slips are placed in envelopes. Any papers marked in any way are declared void.

Romería de la Virgen del Rosario de Fátima

Next Wednesday, 13th May, the traditional pilgrimage procession of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima is celebrated ending at the chapel of the Campo de Guardamar.

Starting from the Parish Church of San Jaime Apóstol at 7pm, with prayer beads for the pilgrims. On reaching the place called "El Dos" images of the Virgin of Fatima and San Isidro Labrador will be incorporated and the procession will continue to the Auditorium of the Campo de Guardamar where a special open-air Mass will be held at 9pm and after the offering of flowers to the Virgin.

At the end there will be refreshments for all participants and free shuttle bus for the return of the pilgrims.

Guardamar April hotel occupancy has risen 6 points between 2012 and 2015

According to data from Guardamar hotel establishments, who account for around 2000 beds, the hotel occupancy rate for April 2015 has risen 2 points in respect to 2014. This confirms a rising trend of 6 points for the month of April since 2012, which was 50%. For it's part, Camping Marjal reports an occupancy rate of 73% for April.
On the other hand, the hotel occupancy for the May Day holiday was 91% in Guardamar surpassing this figure in some of the family hotels in the Town Centre and Hotel Playas de Guardamar which achieved 96%. Camping Marjal reports 77% occupancy for the May Day weekend..

The Guardamar data surpasses the forecasts for the Costa Blanca both for the month of April and the 1st May bank holiday. According to tourism observers, we can look forward to a summer of extremely high occupancy, as has been the tonic in recent years. In Guardamar, the average occupancy rate for summer 2014 (1 July to 30th September) was 82%, reaching 90% for the month of August.

Concert by the Guardamar Musical Group - 10th May

As part of the “Música als Pobles” (music for the people), promoted by Provincial Alicante Council, next Sunday 10th May at 8pm the "Agrupación Musical de Guardamar" offers us a concert in the Music School with orchestral arrangements from The Beatles, Queen, Supertramp, Santana, Elvis and Abba, among others.
The music school is in the Plaza del Mercadillo near the Post office.
