The European Union Intellectual Property Office - EUIPO , through the SCOPE IPR project, works with ASEAN IP offices to strengthen trade mark systems and help businesses understand the registration process.

What happens after you apply for a trade mark?

First, the IP office checks that the application is complete. Then, a trade mark examiner reviews whether the mark meets legal requirements – for example, whether it is distinctive and not misleading or descriptive.

If the application passes, it is published for opposition. If no objections are raised, the trade mark can be registered.

The and EU IP offices also share common examination practices internationally to make trade mark registration more consistent in the EU and beyond, including with partners.

⚖️Myth: Intellectual property is only relevant for large companies.
✅Reality: Many of the most valuable IP assets belong to small businesses, designers and entrepreneurs.

💡A distinctive logo, a product design or a locally known specialty product can become a key competitive advantage for SMEs.

That is why strengthening accessible and transparent IP systems is so important. Through cooperation, the European Union Intellectual Property Office - EUIPO supports institutional development and knowledge exchange with EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood partners.

🚀When smaller innovators can protect their ideas, the whole economy benefits.
