Home of the Khamai BioBlitz. 🔎

Pitalala is a 72-hectare rainforest reserve in the most biodiverse 100x100 km2 quadrant of the planet. The establishment of Pitalala in this segment of the Amazon is critical to stop the advance of a major gold mining operation.

We’ve created a 2.2-minute video to reveal the story behind the urgent expansion of the 📍 Pitalala Reserve.

185 backers and 8 institutions played a role in this particular action, which doubled the area protected at the reserve.

This was a joint effort between Khamai Foundation, IUCN NL, the World Rainforest Fund, Ekō, the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation, IGT Aargau, SwissTerraria.ch, Lacerta, and Minifund. Together, we succeeded in securing 78 hectares of spectacular rainforest to protect a population of the Endangered Spotted Rocket Frog 🐸.

According to Map of Life, the area protected could hold more than 300 species of and , 100 of fish 🐟, hundreds of mammals, and a staggering 100,000 types of arthropods 🐞🦋.

Furthermore, the establishment of a new gold mining front was halted, at least for now.
