This is our attempt to make a difference in our community and support the family of John Collado to obtain the justice they deserve. Please join me in this attempt because I am one person, together we can achieve this goal. An untimely death has occurred among us in the hands of the law. This is the time for us to come together and inform everyone that we will not sit in silence as the government
breaks us down. We are a community of hard working people, we deserve the freedom of walking down our streets safely and this is not the case today. Not only are we fearing criminals but also those who are supposed to, that our tax money pays to protect us as well? Yes, there are criminals in our community. We also have children with dreams, we have young men and women who go to college to earn a better living and support their families, we have older folks who have worked and sacrificed their entire lives trying to help us reach our goals. All these people who from this day forward will live in fear and anger towards the police. Those children that curiously peeked out their windows to see a neighbor lying helplessly on the floor. This is an image that they will carry for the rest of their lives. Let’s get into the event that happened on the afternoon of September 6, 2011. An innocent man dies due to a reckless act from a law enforcer. Where did his training go? Where was his duty to protect civilians then? We need to come together. We are a minority and we are a target. Think about who this happened to. John was a hard working man who loved his family. He wasn’t involved with drugs nor was he gang related. He was an average man who tried to provide for his family the best way that he could. Now think about yourself, your brother, father, grandfather, or any other member of your family, man or woman. Any one of these people fall under the same description. This only gives us the impression that it could have happened to me, my brother, father, uncle, anyone. This will continue to happen unless we all do something now. Unfortunately, this motivation for a change caused John his life but we have to start somewhere. How many more men and women are we willing to sacrifice out of fear?
