🚭 Cigarette filters and their devastating effect on the environment 🌍
Did you know that cigarette filters are one of the most common waste products worldwide?
Here are some alarming facts about environmental pollution from cigarette filters:
1. 🚬 Around 15 billion ci******es are smoked every day – about two-thirds of them end up in the environment! That's the equivalent of 657,000 tonnes of plastic waste polluting the environment every year. Much of it ends up in our oceans, directly or indirectly, posing an enormous threat to marine life.
2. 🌿 Cigarette filters usually consist of plastic fibres (cellulose acetate) that take up to 15 years to decompose.
3. 💰 In Germany alone, cities and municipalities spend around €225 million annually cleaning cigarette butts from public parks, streets and rubbish bins.
A natural alternative is our GENIA filter material, which is made entirely from cellulose, completely decomposes within a few weeks and contains no plastic components. At the same time, the GENIA filter material has comparable filtration properties and, unlike other substitutes such as paper, ensures that the cigarette retains its full flavour when smoked.
