Our Executive Officer, 1LT Kourtney Zeiler, along with our Mechanic, SGT Daniel Simmons, were recognized by our Battalion Command Team LTC Collet and CSM Coley for their outstanding and exemplary work they put towards the exercise that lead to our detachment’s overall success during the exercise.
Congratulations to you both, this was more than deserved.

In March the 71st Medical Detachment (Preventive Medicine) participated in a Battalion FTX in Ansbach Training Area, Germany.
During this week long exercise the Saw Scale Vipers successfully completed nearly 600KM round trip convoy, obtained a unit average of Expert Marksman for the firing ranges, conducted CBRN, both and night land navigation, and completed a convoy reaction course; on top of conducting some preventive medicine training along the way.

Soldiers within the 71st were also called to aid in training for the 557th MCAS MASCAL and CASEVAC, it’s safe to say they had plenty of fun playing the casualties.

It was a long week of training and mastering of skills, but it’s safe to say that the 71st Medical Detachment is the best Preventive Medicine asset that USAREUR-AF and the Army as a whole has to offer.

The 71st Preventive Medicine Detachment is the only Preventive Medicine Detachment for both Europe and Africa; with such a small unit covering a large footprint like this, it leads to us asking Soldiers to excel above their position. PFC Jacob Eichholz was recommended for a MEDCOE coin for his efforts during the Defender 23 exercise. After hearing what PFC Eichholz accomplished, MG Talley battlefield promoted him to SPC, right there on the spot. In what might be a first in the 71st unit history.
We are all extremely proud of the hard work and accomplishments that SPC Eichholz has achieved, and continues to achieve. This was a well deserved award and promotion.
Congratulations SPC Eichholz!
