Once again, the fields near Austerlitz brought together friends from many countries and generations, united by a common passion for history. After returning home and letting the mud dry on our boots, we would like to share a few impressions from this year’s event.

Before the battle itself, members of our unit undertook the traditional week-long march to the battlefield of Austerlitz, starting in Olomouc. Over the course of more than 100 km on foot in historical uniforms and equipment, they followed in the footsteps of the original soldiers.

This year marked the 220th anniversary of the battle; therefore, the re-enactment was larger than in previous years – 1,800 participants from 20 countries around the world, nearly 100 horses, and 16 cannons.

Voltigeurs of the 18th Line took part in the battle as part of a united battalion together with our French comrades-in-arms, under the command of Nicolas Salvetat. True to the historical role of voltigeurs, we opened the battle fighting as skirmishers, facing the Austrian Jaegers.

Aside from being a milestone anniversary, this year’s battle was also the final participation of Mark Schneider, who, after 20 years, is leaving the role of Napoleon, which he has faithfully portrayed in previous re-enactments here and elsewhere.

Our thanks also go to Austerlitz.org for organising the event and for once again giving us the honour of taking part in the battle.

Finally, we would like to thank Jan Štábl - Reenactment photography for capturing these moments in such wonderful photographs, allowing us to relive Austerlitz 2025 long after the last volley has faded.

The summer campaign season is slowly drawing to its close, and so the time has come to think about the care of the wounded. For this reason, our soldiers once again visited Prague’s baroque Invalidovna. In the well-equipped field hospital of Les Marines Brno, all were duly taken care of — including properly performed amputations 🤕🦵🪚.

🔹 For the youngest of the curious, an educational programme was prepared on Friday, while for both young and old, there was evening storytelling. Alongside displays of soldiers’ arms and equipment, the field hospital, and lessons from the Napoleonic era, visitors could also step into other epochs of war.

🔹 1866
Austrian Jägers and Prussian soldiers presented their weapons, combat, and tactics from the Austro-Prussian War and the Battle of Königgrätz.

🔹 1756–1763
From Austrian sappers of the Seven Years’ War, one could learn how to bring down fortifications — and that with a Coehorn mortar, a game of pétanque might also be attempted 💣.

🔹 1914–1918
There were also displays of Austrian soldiers from the Great War.

🗓️ If you could not join us on this occasion, despair not — on November 29–30, the great reenactment of the Battle of Austerlitz will take place, where you shall surely meet. https://fb.me/e/h1HvdFPJ9

Waterloo has a certain resonance. Just hearing the name of this battlefield immediately brings something to mind for everyone. Whether is is the battle itself, a film, a song, or even a beer. It’s no exaggeration to say that when we set out for Belgium, many of us were travelling not just to see one of the last battles of the Napoleonic Wars, but to experience the taste of that legendary name.

During the battle, we were part of a united battalion fighting on the left flank of the French army. Together we launched two assaults on the British positions, captured the La Haye Sainte, and ultimately fought bravely to the last man in an encircled square. We didn’t just fight in formation, but we also skirmished, since our IVth platoon was tasked with screening the column before its deployment.

Beyond the battle itself, it was also fantastic that we set out early enough to walk the entire battlefield and visit the local museums.

With great pleasure, we took part in the eighth annual Manoeuvres of the Light Infantry, an event organized by our friends from the K.k. Jäger-Bataillon

The main focus was training in light infantry tactics and their subsequent application in combat against one another. This time, the skirmish between us and the jägers was enriched by a card-based system, so-called "fates", which assigned each soldier a unique event to experience in battle. Some fought bravely until a grim end, while others panicked and fled. As a result, our skirmish took an unpredictable course.

Austerlitz 2024 once again proved to be a highlight of our season, filled with remarkable moments. After a well-earned rest, we are proud to share our experience from the March to Austerlitz and battle itself.

The 19th annual march to Slavkov, organized by KVH Ostrava-Grenadiere I.R.20 Kaunitz-Rietberg, as we already mentioned in the past, is more than just a journey: it is a unique week-long journey to the historic battlefield. Along the way, we leave behind the concerns of everyday life and fully embrace the rare atmosphere of friendship that binds this community together. This year joined our ranks for the whole event, the march and the battle Nicolas from Les Conscrits du Languedoc, who lifted our spirits with songs and engaging conversations.

The Battle of Austerlitz brought us a significant suprise. Together with our friends from the 33ème regiment d'infanterie de ligne and Adrian from Poland, we were divided into two platoons, giving André Aimé the chance to take command. He led the fifth platoon, from where he commended the third division of the line battalion. His conduct in battle and dedication over the years earned him a well-deserved promotion at the end of the battle.

We are grategul to our three soldiers, Michel, Omfie and Balzac, for their faithful ten years of service.

We also want to thank Austerlitz.org for organizing the event and giving us the honour to open the battle as skirmishers.

Finally, our thanks go to Jan Štábl - Reenactment photography for the wonderful photos!

Headgear has been an integral part of any dress for centuries, including uniforms. Therefore, when our unit welcomed several new members, we decided to make new hats of the 1801 model, so they too could join us at Austerlitz this year.

However, the honor for us was the choice of the manufacturing location, as we had the chance to meet in the jewelry workshop of our friend, Jan Vlasák Jewellery, who recently joined our ranks. Here are a few photos of our new hats and the beautiful workshop where we created them.

Last week, we participated in the event Malé války, which took us to the Czech-Saxon border in the year 1813. Role-playing was a key part of the event, allowing us to deeply engage with the historical setting. Our soldiers faced both internal and external challenges, having to deal with a greedy commander, cooperate with local civilians and refugees, and confront the Austrian army, which had joined the coalition against France. The event was filled with tension, tactical challenges, and offered many opportunities for immersive collaboration.

Team building can mean many things: a mandatory corporate party, a school activity, a trip, and more. For us, it was a weekend at the Šance fortifications, near Mosty u Jablunkova.

Here, we found time for activities that usually don’t fit into other events. Besides careful training, learning to count in French, and weapon inspections, we also had a go at a capture-the-flag battle. The voltigeurs split into two teams, depending on whether they wanted to defend the emperor’s or the king’s interests, and engaged in combat.

The half-hour skirmish was an adventurous conclusion to an excellent weekend at a fascinating location.

Thanks Jan Štábl - Reenactment photography for the photos!
