🇬🇩🇨🇺 Strengthening Grenada–Cuba Cooperation in Cultural Heritage

The Embassy of Grenada in Havana is pleased to highlight another important step in the continued strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Grenada and Cuba, particularly in the preservation and conservation of Grenada’s cultural heritage.

On August 22nd, 2026, H.E. Glen Benedict Noel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Grenada to Cuba, and his team met with a delegation of five Cuban cultural heritage specialists who will be deployed to Grenada to support ongoing work at the National Museum

The delegation brings together experts in museology, museum management, and the conservation and restoration of movable cultural heritage. Their deployment follows an earlier visit by two Cuban specialists to Grenada in 2025, who conducted a needs assessment focused on the development and preservation of Grenada’s cultural heritage and museum collections.

This initiative builds on the cooperation agreements established between Grenada and Cuba and reflects the shared commitment of both countries to advancing technical cooperation, protecting cultural heritage, and strengthening institutional capacity.

🇬🇩🤝🇨🇺 A clear statement of mutual commitment to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both nations and the preservation of Grenada’s rich cultural heritage.

🎓✨ On Wednesday, July 22nd, a remarkable milestone was achieved at the historic Karl Marx Theater in Havana. Approximately 1,885 students graduated from the University of Medical Sciences of Havana—an enduring testament to the strength of Cuban medical education.

We are especially proud to celebrate five outstanding Grenadian nationals who successfully completed their medical studies:
- Dr. Micah Andall
- Dr. Shanta Harford
- Dr. Kadina Cornwall
- Dr. Craig Hastick
- Dr. Roxanne Lewis

Following the ceremony, His Excellency Mr. Noel, Ambassador of Grenada to Cuba, hosted a special luncheon to honor these graduates. They were joined by a sixth Grenadian scholar, Mr. Kenny Fleming, who graduated in Electrical Engineering from CUJAE (Technological University).

Together, this brings the total number of Grenadian graduates for the 2026 course to seven—five from Medical Sciences and two from CUJAE. Each graduate received a token of appreciation from the Embassy, symbolizing our nation’s pride in their dedication and success.

🇬🇩🇨🇺 Congratulations to all our graduates—you inspire us with your hard work and commitment!

🇬🇩 x 🇹🇿 — Grenada’s Embassy in Havana marked an important diplomatic moment on Friday, June 9, 2026, as Tanzania’s newly appointed Ambassador to Cuba, Lieutenant General Matthew Edward Mkingule, paid a courtesy visit to Grenada’s Ambassador, H.E. Glen Noel.

During their meeting, Ambassador Noel extended warm congratulations on behalf of the Government of Grenada, welcoming Ambassador Mkingule to his new post. The two envoys discussed ways to expand cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean, with a focus on building formal ties between Grenada and Tanzania. They agreed to prepare the groundwork for their Foreign Ministers to sign a declaration of diplomatic relations this September during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Ambassador Mkingule arrives in Cuba with a distinguished background. He has combined military service with academic excellence and previously served as Tanzania's Ambassador to Zambia.

This encounter in Havana signals a new chapter in Grenada–Tanzania relations, highlighting a shared commitment to deepen South–South cooperation and strengthen bonds across continents.

Grenada Commemorates the 47th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations with Cuba
The Embassy of Grenada in the Republic of Cuba, on behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, extends fraternal greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of Cuba on the commemoration of the 47th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Since the formalization of ties in 1979, Grenada and Cuba have enjoyed 47 years of bilateral cooperation, friendship, solidarity, and mutual benefit. This enduring partnership has been anchored in mutual respect for national sovereignty and the right to self‑determination, principles that continue to guide the relationship today.

This anniversary comes at a time marked by heightened geopolitical tensions and economic challenges associated with the prolonged and tightening blockade. In this context, Grenada reaffirms its solidarity with the Cuban people and expresses profound gratitude for Cuba’s humanity, selflessness, and longstanding spirit of internationalism.

Over the past 47 years, Grenada has benefited significantly from Cuba’s cooperation, including:

Construction of the Maurice Bishop International Airport

Construction of the new national hospital

Training of approximately 500 Grenadian professionals in medicine, engineering, economics, agricultural sciences, and other fields. Cuban medical specialists, in particular, have played a vital role in strengthening Grenada’s health‑care services.

Grenada’s support for Cuba at multilateral institutions has remained consistent and unwavering, especially in its call for the lifting of economic sanctions and for an end to the blockade.

As both nations mark this important milestone, Grenada looks forward to the continued strengthening of cooperation and the deepening of the historic bonds of friendship that unite the peoples of Grenada and Cuba.
