Congratulations to MFF Group on their participation in the Shanghai Fisheries Expo 2026 and their work in strengthening Malta’s tuna presence in Shanghai.

A pleasure to once again meet Mr Salvu Ellul and Mr Chen Juheng, and to see the growing collaboration in fresh tuna imports, aquaculture and the wider fisheries value chain, including cooperation with Fujian Weilan Ocean Group.

It is always a special occasion for the Consulate General to see another successful showcase of superb Maltese tuna in Shanghai.

Guoyun Jiangxin Intangible Cultural Heritage paid a courtesy visit to the Consulate General on Friday 19 June to discuss cooperation in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

The Consul General shared some elements of Malta’s rich craftsmanship, such as precious metalwork, traditional ornaments, ceramics, glass and textiles.

The meeting underlined the significance of preserving and promoting the living traditions of both Malta and China in an increasingly fast-moving and globalised world.

On Sunday 14 June the Consulate General was delighted to attend the 22nd Shanghai Suzhou Creek Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament, celebrating one of China’s most cherished traditional festivals, along the iconic Suzhou waterway.

Dragon boat racing commemorates the ancient poet Qu Yuan and symbolizes perseverance, unity and the enduring strength of Chinese cultural heritage.

A taste of Malta in Shanghai 🇲🇹🇨🇳

On the evening of 9 June the Consulate General of Malta in Shanghai was delighted to join partners from the Institute Of Tourism Studies - ITS, Shanghai Commercial & Industrial Polytechnic and the Malta International School for a unique dinner celebrating educational cooperation between Malta and China.

The four-hand dinner brought together renowned Maltese Chef Joseph Cassar and Chinese Chef Gu Chao blending Mediterranean flavours with Chinese culinary artistry. Guests enjoyed a carefully curated menu featuring authentic Mediterranean and Chinese dishes, accompanied by Maltese wines and traditional Maltese coffee.

The evening was further enhanced by the professional service provided by students from the ITS-SICP programme. Among the guests were representatives from Zhengzhou Tourism College, members of the Maltese diaspora in Shanghai, and colleagues from Visit Malta.

A special thank you to ITS CEO Pierre Fenech for his continued dedication to the success of the ITS Shanghai and Ms Yumi Feng for the impeccable organisation.

The Consulate General would like to thank Visit Malta for hosting an excellent media press lunch at the stunning Bvlgari Hotel on the eve of the commencement of ITB Shanghai 2026, bringing together representatives from leading media houses to showcase Malta as a destination offering wellbeing, gastronomy, culture, and immersive travel experiences.

Through presentations by Ms. Xiaolong Wu and Ms. Deanna Shang, guests explored Malta’s growing focus on wellness tourism, authentic cultural experiences, and gastronomy, while also enjoying a tasting of Meridiana wines, including Isis and Nexus.

The Consul General’s remarks highlighted Malta’s rich history, boutique travel experiences centred around gastronomy, and her passion for ldistance running, which allows visitors to discover the islands in greater depth.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to further promote Malta as a diverse and enriching Mediterranean destination.
