PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN GUANGZHOU EXPLORES OPPORTUNITIES FOR PHILIPPINE FRUIT EXPORTS THROUGH GUANGXI

Guangzhou, 29 May 2026 – The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou led by Consul General Iric Cruz Arribas met with officials of the Department of Commerce of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region led by Secondary Inspector Cao Kedi on 29 May 2026 to discuss opportunities to expand the presence of Philippine agricultural products in the Chinese market and strengthen trade cooperation between the Philippines and Guangxi.

Discussions focused on preparations for the “Big Market for All: Export to China” – “ASEAN Fruits, Gather in Guangxi” Initiative, which will be held in Nanning, Guangxi on 18 June 2026. This event aims to provide a platform for high-quality ASEAN fruits to enter the Chinese market and to deepen cooperation across the agricultural supply chain through the model of “ASEAN production, Guangxi distribution, and China sales.”

Ms. Kedi invited Consul General Arribas to attend and organize Philippine companies to participate in the event and emphasized the importance of the year 2026 in the relations between China and ASEAN countries. “The year 2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and ASEAN, the 5th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership, and a key year for the in-depth advancement of Guangxi's high-quality joint construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the upcoming opening of the Pinglu Canal,” said Ms. Kedi.

Consul General Arribas recognized Guangxi’s growing role as a gateway for ASEAN agricultural products entering China. “The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in Guangxi is important as it enables Philippine exporters to avail of a new entry point for Philippine agricultural products to reach the Chinese market faster through Guangxi,” he said.

The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou is working with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Guangzhou to ensure the participation of Philippine companies in this event.
