🇳🇦🤝🇨🇳 Ambassador of Namibia to the People's Republic of China, H.E. Tonata Itenge-Emvula concluded a high-level meeting with Mr. Han Yaodong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Director and General Manager of Shandong Gold Group, alongside senior management members.
Shandong Gold Group, a Fortune Global 500 State-Owned Enterprise, holds significant investments in Namibia, notably as shareholders in Osino Gold, Exploration Mining, and a local marble enterprise.
The core of the discussions centred on moving Namibia-China relations from a model of resource extraction to local value addition. By combining Namibia’s abundant natural resources with the Group’s technical know-how in green power, vehicle manufacturing, and infrastructure, both parties aim to foster a mutually beneficial, win-win economic environment.
Citied as a key driver for their future expansion plans, the Group lauded Namibia’s political peace and stability as the bedrock for secure investments. Furthermore, the Group was briefed on the upcoming State Visit of the Namibian President to China in July and expressed their enthusiastic readiness to support the visit.
The Embassy extends its gratitude to Shandong Gold Group for their consistent corporate citizenship and financial contributions toward the Embassy’s National Day Celebrations, reaffirming its commitment to assisting the Group in navigating its operations seamlessly. Exploring l A delegation from the Namibian Embassy in the People's Republic of China led by Ambassador Tonata Itenge-Emvula, visited the impressive CGN Solar Panel Plant Power Station and the He Shuo Wind Farm power plant located in the desert area of China’s Inner-Mongolia, from 21-22 May 2026.

The Solar Plant is built on what was once an ordinary, saline-alkaline desert. This innovative project has been operating for two years and now generates clean power for approximately 50,000 households annually.

Whilst the Wind power plant generates about 500 Kilowatts. This capacity which feeds into the national grid is fixed to avoid overloads. The plant is said to cover about 10 000 households at 100km per day.

Beyond their massive energy outputs the projects have provided significant economic benefits and created extensive employment opportunities for the local communities.

Ambassador Itenge-Emvula said that the Embassy is actively exploring future possibilities to replicate this highly successful and doable model back home.

With our vast desert landscapes these projects presents incredible potential for similar green energy projects in Namibia. Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation-Namibia
