I love finding family activities that feel like a mini holiday, and this one really does.

A boat ride, a treasure hunt and beautiful lakeside views — such a lovely family day out.

We took the boat from Lucerne to Hertenstein and followed the Riviera Scavenger Hunt towards Weggis. The boat ride already feels like part of the adventure, with mountains, little villages and Lake Lucerne all around you.

Once you arrive in Hertenstein, the hunt begins! There are 9 puzzle stations along the lakeside route, with multiple playgrounds along the way — perfect for little breaks between solving the clues.

The story is about a wealthy widow who has forgotten the code to her jewellery safe, and the children have to find the secret codes hidden along her favourite walk. It’s a fun way to explore the area while keeping the kids engaged.

Practical details:
• Start in Hertenstein and walk towards Weggis
• 9 puzzles / approx. 70 minutes
• Free scavenger hunt
• Stroller-friendly route
• Pick up the puzzle map at Café Vienna in Hertenstein
• Riddles are in German
• At the end, solve the final puzzle at the Tourist Information and claim your reward at the Volg store nearby
• Take the boat back to Lucerne from Weggis

The boat from Lucerne to Hertenstein takes around 35 minutes, making this a perfect half-day adventure. The whole excursion takes approximately 3.5 hours.

Beautiful views, a little adventure, playground stops and a boat ride — what more could you ask for?
